The new Tasmanian amendments are opt in.So if you do not say anything when registering the birth gender is left blank.I would hope in practice when people register a birth they will be asked what gender they want on the certificate.
Same applies to death certificates but the bill actually says only the person the certificate applies to or if under 16 the parents may decide what to put in for gender.Bit hard when you're dead!.

The problem that will come about despite the pollies denial stems from the fact that you may change your gender as many times as you want.So if a fellow is going to apply for a job where a woman is going to be preferred does he just change his gender before applying?Or if he feels he would be more successful playing a sport as a woman?

If the push included optional changes to birth certificates to remove gender from them then that is fine
It is optional.
This Israel Folau thing has gone too far. If you're not religious what he said should be irrelevant, vulnerable or not vulnerable. If you're religious then none of what he said should be news to you.
So again deciding on what denigrating comments should be relevant to a group of people....... Anyhow it seems we're not going to agree on why people need to think before they speak, or post things on a public platform and show compassion towards other people.

Folau will head to a code of conduct hearing after the Anzac Day 'long weekend', where it is most likely his contract will be terminated. A few circles have said that RUPA aren't at all happy with his comments either, so I can't see them putting up too much of a fight with their vote on the 3 person panel.

The gender issue surrounding sport does need to certainly be looked at, regardless of someones oestrogen level, which I think is a big indicator of when they allow someone into that particular genders competition, there needs to be serious consideration surrounding that persons overall body composition. For instance, if someone goes through puberty as a male and then converts to a female, the conversion doesn't take away the stronger physical elements and higher bone density (on average) that you develop through your adolescence as a male compared to a female.

It really is a major issue for all codes of sport.

I've been thinking that it will be impossible to resist.

So to fix this there will be not Men's or Woman's sports - just sports and all can play.

With most sports that means the physically strongest are more likely to win.

Only if we make it so.
this guy and this story is receiving way too much oxygen.
He is a tosser, move on ! (and that is not a refrence to his beliefs, just a nod to his rank stupidity)

I agree it already is an issue with some not allowed to play AFLW (just as one example) so I think that it will need to be properly confronted and resolved at some stage.

I think (as in quite common on AFF :)) the latest discussions have gone somewhat away from the the original post on whether people have the right to espouse publicly certain beliefs and views.

Some would say, and are saying that he's trying to save them, not denigrate.... really depends on your POV.

Me, I don't have any skin in this game .... apart from ticking off a good few number on his list :)
How can saying “gays will burn in hell” not denigrate them?

Which in reality most likely means men will dominate all sports.

Surely that "right" is not in question ? ( well perhaps it is… )
I though the seminal question related to the breaking of a contract agreement.
Some here seem to suggest that there are or should be overarching, "whole of society " enforceable laws" about what can be said to anyone anytime

POV = point of view
No, this is not a matter of opinion at all. Can anyone explain how saying “gays will burn in hell” does not denigrate them? If this does not denigrate, what form of words are necessary.

Like I said in my OP IMO, he believes he's trying to save "all of the groups" mentioned in his tweet - have you read his tweet?

Your opinion, is different to his, which is different to mind.... like everything on this planet - it all depends on your POV.

He quoted / retweeted nothing different to what you might hear on any given Sunday or Friday depending on the suburb you reside....

Voltaire (French Writer, 1700s) - "I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. "

I personally do not like what Anning, Falou and some Greens' Senators (such as Sarah Hanson-Young's anti-Jewish stance) comments and social media announcements. However, I will respect their right to voice their opinion. I just personally will not cast my vote for them (and the parties they associate with) or turn up to any games/social events with them around.

In recent years, I had been personally attacked and vilified just for asking questions or pointing out some historical facts. ( For example, I asked some Greens supporters why did they regard naz_s as Right Wing, when naz_s actually stand for National Socialist - ultra Left Wing - and their original policy pre-WWII were actually similar to some of Greens' belief especially in the area of Anti-Semitic (anti-Israel) stance.) Also, at times, I pointed that I support a Mixed-Racial and Melting Pot Culture society rather than Multicultural one. I found these days, when you start to ask uncomfortable questions and quoting scripture or facts/stats, I just get attacked for being Islamophobic, Homophobic, Racist, a White Supremacist or whatever nasty name I can be lumped with.

(Note: I am an ABC with a White partner, I have Tamils Malay Indian, Austrian/Germans and Scotch Irish on the In-Law side - from both Hetro and Same Sex Marriage links. )

We in Australia, along with just about the rest of the world, have moved beyond Voltaire. Libel lawyers are very active. Racial and religious vilification is against the law. Falou’s tweets fall short of that but still clearly denigrate groups of people he disapproved of. He was warned by Rugby Australia about his comments on social media, and he ignored those warnings. He deserves to be sacked.

What I am scared of is that we are moving to an extreme where everything can be perceived as an offence/insult or vilification. Are we going to ban Bible (Old Testament) and Quran because both books contained similar passages to support Falou's POV? Will Australia go through Cultural Revolution or naz_'s regime where books were burnt and removed off the shelves just because? Don't forget Academics during those dark times were silenced or worse "re-educated" in camps.

Actually, I think it is already happening in Australia. Libraries and schools no longer stock on some books because they "offend"certain groups or do not support "Climate" agenda.

Lastly, will Rugby Australia boycott games with Fuji? Because Fuji Ruby Team has Prayer to God before start of the match, plus Fiji PM is strongly against LGBTI because of his belief -

Sadly it is very likely - we have become a society divorced from fact and reality and instead one driven purely by emotion and subjective feelings. There are some amusing clips on Youtube where leftards are interviewed and when confronted with the facts the retort is 'there's no such thing as fact and the only thing that matters is emotion'. No more can we refrain "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" and instead everything must be reduced to the lowest common denominator of what the most brittle and hypersensitive professional victim approves of.
