Further Status Extension to 28 Feb 2023

Good question regarding the gifting of Gold.
I've been wandering it too.
I assume you'd have to get your 800 to retain then an addition 500 SCs to gift.

Some smart cookie here will know from experience.

thanks in advance.

It seems wrong for those of us that already booked flights before March 2022 in order to retain status, that those flights now have no status value.

Agreed.

Although, VA is giving fee-free changes/cancellations to a credit for travel up to 28 February 2022. You could rebook for travel beyond March 2022 if you wanted to?

I have already used the free change to rebook several DSC flights to March. (Not by way of travel bank as that loses the DSC.)

Is anyone else starting to find this all a bit confusing?

Right now my review date is 1 April 2022 and I've flown several paid flights this year (including between 7 Dec 2020 and 21 March 2021) but not enough to retain Gold. Does this mean it'll be extended to 2023 or would I need to retain it on my own?

Mate, your all over so many issues here on AFF.

Yeah sure seems like if you got April 1 day expiry now which will be automatically extended to 1 April 2023 as you have the previous extension applied.

Cheers for your info on many of you're posts.

haha cheers, I've been plotting and scheming here on how to travel overseas again. Sadly it may not happen as quickly due to QLD things.

This is what I figured however it's not as clear as the Qantas tables which outline the specific dates etc.

Does the plat extension to Feb 28, 2023, on Mar 1, 2022, mean that your earnings from Mar 1 count towards re-qualifying even though the review date for the current status extension occurs on Mar 31?

I sure hope so as I have SYD-MEL-LST, SYD-ADL and SYD-CFS booked for me and my partner in business in March…

Well, Qantas only have 12 possible dates for a membership year, Velocity your membership year could be on any date.

Yes, your new year will be as you say.

Shows how much I know/care about velocitys overly complex rules. Despite almost exclusively flying them around Australia I've never really had to worry about dates as my domestic plus handful of SQ flights would always tick over the line to retain gold.

I feel like I read this thread a month ago but am just reflecting on my email from 17 sept, I appear to be in the same boat as @kpc and getting the shorter stick in this offer. Unfortunately I've missed out on the Qantas offer too due to membership year timing.

"As we look towards more borders opening, we are excited to let you know that we will extend your Gold Status membership for an additional 8 months upon your review date X November 2021*."

With WA's borders meaning no work travel, I have little chance of retaining either (though in hindsight, I should have aimed for the 'book a flight by 21 march 2021' offer to get the extension on VA through to 2023).

I do wonder/hope they come through with another blanket extension for those expiring early next year, as Qantas has, or implement reduced targets to renew. But I don't feel like it's likely.

hope I have this extension. Flew Darwin Perth Aug 31 2021. Living in WA its harder to go anywhere else. Certainly not going anywhere now until we know what is happening regarding our borders.
I reckon he is waiting to see what happens in other states and how fast china flu spreads.

I need to go to London ASAP but not booking anything yet. Will make sure I get a booster before I go. Qantas direct from somewhere in Oz looks like best bet.

I got an email saying my status would be extended by 8 months and today it got extended with rhe review date moving from 1st November to 13th November. I guess I’ve exhausted the extension entitlements? Either way does platinum drop down to gold?

Perhaps someone can answer my query for me because I haven't quite been able to figure it out for myself.

My current expiry date is 31 March 2022, but this will be extended until 28 February 2023 on 1 March 2022. I'm currently only 20 SC's away from retaining Gold, so what happens when I get those 20 SC's? Does my status just get extended for 12 months from that date or is it extended for 12 months from 1 March 2023?

Good question.
I'm in same boat, will hit 400SC to retain Gold well before 31 March.
Although I'm not fussed as will stagger to WP before 31 March 2022 so irrelevant the extension in the end in my case.

amazing what DSC offers do to a family trip.

Requalifications are assessed at your review date. So if you are already gold, they will assess at the end of March.

Another thread just like the Hilton one, so off to the email account and sure enough another well received email. By my calculation Hilton WP extension and VA WP extension into early 2023 without any effort or flights.

BTW @ozstamps it is most likely time to get over how important you think you are. Why bother to bold and increase font size on social media, who cares what you are posting from emails in 2016/17/18. Covid hit in 2020
So I haven't been extended belong January 31st 2022 - do you think that's because mine was gifted rather than earnt. I did have one paid flight with Virgin in the last twelve months
