Son and family were tested Friday night. Winter sniffles are going to represent significant challenges. Test results negative and came through about 40 hours later and much relief.

It will certainly be a challenge for Doctors to manage. I'm thinking testing will increase greatly. Not a bad thing but considerable inconvenience when iso is required until the test results come out. And that will happen multiple times I'd expect with the average person having a couple of colds a year.

That certainly doesn't happen in Adelaide. It can be 1.35 in the morning and 1.60 an hour later. It used to be very cyclical ie always went up on Tuesday but for more than a year now it is all over the place

It's still regulated in that way.

Prior to that, it was a free for all, with the price potentially bouncing around at short intervals.

As an aside to that, as a schoolkid, my younger son worked at a local small servo pumping fuel. It was right next to a large Shell servo. My son's boss would, at least on the odd occasion, put a lower price on the side of his sign that faced away from the big servo, and the same price as them on their side. It was a fairly major road out of the city, with the small servo on the city side of the large servo, so drivers could could see driving home in the evening the two contrasting prices.

Jacinda has certainly done a great job coming out of the lockdown.Our State Premiers should take note.They have their contact tracers and testing at the ready for the inevitable odd case of Covid.
Not surprisingly she is about thirty points ahead in the polls after level pegging with the opposition in January.

Otoh . Au still "enjoys" 457 active , 3 in ICU , and x in the wild…. clearly a great opportunity to throw open the doors and shoot for a sweet little second wave...

NZ wont accept any visitors until they also can show eradication (30 days without a community transfer).
Equally Australia shouldn't accept a bubble with anyone higher than us.

Australia's active cases should start dropping quickly given we are well past peak infection period

Its all very well putting up these factitious comments and straw man arguments; perhaps you might put your mind to what was enquired before. What's your stage or conditions for lifting restrictions, say to interstate travel? Zero cases nationwide, like NZ? If so, whats the plan if that simply doesn't happen, due to international case imports? Do we keep the massive Govt spend up ad-infinitum? if so, who pays for that? Do we tolerate the uptick in domestic violence ad-infinitum? There's no "sweet little second wave" there - just a continuous dumper. Not sweet.

BTW, with zero cases, Ardern isn't "throwing open the doors" - far from it.

There seems a valid argument that , other than some time ,all our pain will gain us little .
The virus will soon become endemic in the US and most (all??) of the populous "first world" countries.
The daily rates world wide continue to climb steeply ; lockdowns are being eased at or near peak infectivity levels to depressurise the social fabric at the expense of a looming second wave.

How can clean little nothing countries like NZ and many smaller countries that rely on tourism and trade maintain their disease status AND their standard of living ?
Our bubble may appear to give us a small victory in the "clean and wholesome" ratings , but it also creates a significant " economic ball and chain" that
may create increasing social pressure on Government to throw open the doors and embrace mass infection.

Yep. For all the domestic politicking about being able to fly from SYD/MEL to AKL before being able to fly to BNE or CNS, Ardern's suggestion that September is a more appropriate timeframe for 'the bubble' than July is all about Australia getting its house in order re community transmission.
