My guess is that they'll keep the border closed but relax rules even further on pubs, sport, things like that, as a salve. I think something needs to be done to appease people.

Currently it's 2 sq m and mandatory to be seated in pubs. If they relax that and allow such things as live music, for example, I think that would go a long way to appeasement.

I've given up caring too much but I am p*ssed off for people like some on AFF who were planning to visit WA for the wildflower season in spring (peaking mid August-mid September). Opening by then is looking like a fading proposition.

At least intrastate travel restrictions are relaxed. I'm shooting through to Exmouth on Monday for a couple of weeks - getting in before the school holidays start on 3 July.

Well, my prediction has come true. As from this Friday, relaxation of rules will allow standing and live music in pubs in WA.

It just had to be one or the other of opening the border or relaxing local restrictions. It became a no-brainer with the situation in the DPRV.

Hopefully, but tests in Vic today were only 6,314, though Sunday and Sat were 15,400 and 9,504.

Plus most people have been doing the right thing and so it remains to be seen if the ones doing the wrong thing change. This weeks cases are the last in a chain of a new infection passing the baton each week.

Given that the Victoria Government only publicly took this seriously yesterday(?) when announcing their cancellation of future planned easing of restrictions and combining it with the typical transmissible period (10-14 days), then are we looking at another about 150-200 cases perhaps.

Hopefully those past 5 days of double-digit new cases before acting do not come back to bite the Victorian Government.

The change in restrictions was announced on Saturday.
 
SA is continuing to open up next Monday to conditions similar to WA. I sincerely wish that Victoria can trace and isolate and contain. Doing that will be the first step towards Australia showing that it is capable of managing any further easing of national restrictions.

It will be interesting won’t it? If Victoria can control this mess they have and get back to minimal cases it will be very good for confidence in Australia’s ability to control future hot spots.

EDIT - ignore my dyslexic ramblings.
I read a report today that of a couple of hundred checks in Vic on those supposed to be in isolation (presumably close contacts of a positive case) that only 17 were at home but so far I think only 1 fine issued. Which is completely pointless.

174 checked, 13 not home, 1 fined, 12 excuses still being checked.

Unless they were seeking medical assistance i.e. at hospital emmergency then there is no valid excuse not to be home if you are supposed to be in self isolation. Not allowed to go shopping etc.

Im surprised these ransom checks werent happening all along, the number of people in isolation relatively small, should be checking each household at least once in the 14 day window.

A Freudian slip given you can be fined if not permitted to leave your premises. ;)

In the early days of home quarantine there were problems with home delivery of groceries so it is understandable that some people had to leave for essentials.

And with the panic buying then happening you could reasonably expect to attend several stores to get basic supplies.

But now this has been overcome then a failure to remain at home, unless a medical emergency. should see the person moved to a lock down hotel at their own expense. Any further breaches and a severe fine is warranted.

Especially if you infect others.

At least they will be tested twice before release to the rest of Australia.
