General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Informative stuff, good, but missing age and existing condition breakdowns. However I am skeptical of this curve nonsense, because flu's spread, always has, and they persist, meaning you delay. I get the logic in not swamping limited medical resources that were swamped by the normal flu.

So as ICU and ventilation is rationed - or placid cases shipped to palliative care, it seems the known drugs should be dispensed anyway, because those are in the coughs shoot for survival. See Chloroquine and remdesivir. The number of infected is no so important. Isolate the loosers is now getting the best bang for buck attention.

Now only if Australia had the ability to manufacture these drugs, at scale, fast. I note China is now doing exactly that. It also seems wasteful that people who are recovered, cant get tested, and be given an 'OK to fly' pass.

Currently if positive for Covid19:

Avoid Nurofen and other anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS)
Avoid Drugs which fall into the category of Angiotensin-Converting-Enzyme_inhibitor and Angiotensin-receptor-Blockers (any of the drugs that end in "-pril" or "-sartan" . not the brand name but the actual name of the drug)

Consider Chloroquine and Kaletra (Lopinavir/ritonavir = antiHIV, very expensive $1000 for a course)

Those two need a script though don't they? I get confused between brand name and actual name. Karvezide has -sartan on the end of one of its ingredients but don't know which is brand versus actual name. I know I was taking nifedipine for Raynauds but only in winter. I seem to be racking up the alert warnings but at least I'm on one of the potential curative drugs.

Still no community spread in SA but I get the idea that Australia wide the tests aren't being carried out all the time.

Brand name is always in bigger font than the actual name which is always in fine print but on the box.
the other way to tell between the brand and actual name is that brand names have less syllables and are way easier to pronounce.

The example of Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir) is classic for brand name/actual name

Nifedipine is a calcium channel antagonist and that class of drugs are the go to antihypertensive if the -prils and -sartans cannot be used.

Yes if panadeine forte needs script, you can bet that those above need scripts.

You can't get Chloroquine in Australia. You can buy it online from India but the price has quadrupled for some reason.
A new study has found positive results with hydroxychloroquine (plaquenil) but together with Azothyioprine.,Both available on script.

Is anyone else completely over the emails that are coming from companies you haven't used in years and have unsubscribed from multiple times and you get cough like "We're here for you" Well let me tell you Flexiroam - you weren't there for me when I had problems in Sth America so you can eff off. Shoe shops - we're here for you - OH PLEASE. Ok time to go to bed and listen to a soothing podcast.

Oh yes! I've received so many in the last day it's ridiculous. Even from the RAA! All starting with "we are here for you".
You haven't gone to bed yet I see.

One of the coronavirus emails I got was from a company I had already unsubscribed from. Many are from companies I rarely deal with.

There seems to be little or no information about preparations for the peak flood of infection.
I haven't noticed any 500 bed hospitals being built on the Gabba, or at the Exhibition centre or anywhere else for that mater….. perhaps I have missed it.
One assumes that there would currently be a great deal of industry preparing to manage the flood, but to the public eye there is none.
It all seems very quiet.. too quiet ...disconcertingly so
My perception of limited preparation may be erroneous… or…..

Though the Prince of Wales hospital in Sydney has been using the CP Coogee hotel for maternity patients for some time.Suspended at the moment because of a refurb at the CP.

I suspect a few hotels/motels might be used for positive cases needing isolation but not seriously ill.

They are starting to be sent to home isolation now.

I saw a tiny silver lining out of all these grim events. Quite a few businesses are now accepting only card. Maybe this will spur shops to move more rapidly to card only payments. Even if I wasn't chasing points, cash is coughbersome.

Our GE rep told us today that the US is now not allowed to export critical medical equipment such as Ventilators, drugs, PPE out of the USA.

mmmm I hope that is not where the Vic Premier has bought his from then that he said had been ordered some time back and were on their way.
