Auckland Airport CEO pushes trans-Tasman bubble
Auckland International Airport chief executive Adrian Littlewood has told BusinessDesk (paywalled, worth subscribing) that it’s time to start planning for a “trans-Tasman” travel bubble – even if such an eventuality is months away. “We need to test and trial those mechanisms across the Tasman, even if it’s state-by-state for a start,” he told Pattrick Smellie, editor of the online business news startup. He said that such a move would provide a huge boost to each country’s respective tourism industries, particularly given that much of the rest of the world is likely to be closed off for at least a year.

The move came not long after Australian federal tourism minister Simon Birmingham urged “see Australia first” after lockdown ends, while raising the prospect of “a little bit” of travel to New Zealand. He reiterated the likelihood of Australia’s closed borders staying that way through the remainder of the year

I see Trump is unhappy with Fauci now as Fauci said that they should have acted earlier. I was surprised that Fauci lasted this long actually.
But, hopefully, Fauci will be able to cling on to his job.

Fortunately Fauci has another life that I am sure he can resume if the stress of having to stand on the same podium as Trump and listen to some of his inane sayings does not get to him first.

I watched this documentary “We Heard The Bells”. -See attachment -with a younger Dr Fauci giving some information about the Spanish Flu.

Quite interesting for an historical perspective.
Particularly about the sequencing many decades later from the lung tissue ( of an Inuit woman ) preserved by permafrost in a tiny reserve in Alaska.

Wonder what historians will think of the way the 2020 pandemic was handled.

Spain and Italy are starting to relax restrictions slightly. Spain from today for workers in certain industries and Italy tomorrow for certain types of businesses.

Ireland has extended lockdown till May 5.

I think I read that the L-plate driver fine was withdrawn but the edict was that nobody else will get away with it so don’t try it.

My take on the L-plate thing was, it's fine, but don't use it as an excuse to head down the peninsula for some R&R. Do it on the way to the shops, or to caring for elderly relatives. But not for a Sunday drive down to a known holiday spot.

If you are in a locked down part of a retirement village and you get out somehow I understand that facility cannot take you back in under the latest rules. Not sure where you would get housed if you were to wander.

Passport tax relief. My passport cost a lot for money. I can't use it, and people stranded overseas can't get support (In the case of Indian HC, seems to be a delay/hindrance in approving evacuation flights). So on renewal, will I get a pro-rata discount? I suppose people stuck here deserve visa relief as well. Far from the above - I hear something about another 'Levy' on flights. A bit rich, as I believe Australian passports fees are amongst the highest in the world. It might be an idea if Passport office adds more pages incase someone decides visa stamps might help. Yes, a visa for Tas, Qld and whoever.

At some stage, antibody positive people are going to demand travel freedoms, even if QF and Virgin stay grounded - a tactic to get get govt handout methinks. Good on those charter organisers.

This post is apolitical and makes no reference to any national leader who has stuffed up big time……. 😁

If (your favourite leader) were Captain of Titanic:

"There isn't any iceberg. There was an iceberg but it's in a totally different ocean. The iceberg is in this ocean but it will melt very soon. There is an iceberg but we didn't hit the iceberg. We hit the iceberg, but the damage will be repaired very shortly. The iceberg is a Chinese iceberg. We are taking on water but every passenger who wants a lifeboat can get a lifeboat, and they are beautiful lifeboats. Look, passengers need to ask nicely for the lifeboats if they want them. We don't have any lifeboats, we're not lifeboat distributors. Passengers should have planned for icebergs and brought their own lifeboats. I really don't think we need that many lifeboats. We have lifeboats and they're supposed to be our lifeboats, not the passengers' lifeboats. The lifeboats were left on shore by the last captain of this ship. Nobody could have foreseen the iceberg."

No @Hvr but we have a friend in a lock up facility and in there they have some who can walk quickly if a door is left ajar. Now with the new rules you cannot get returned to that facility.
We had to report a lady who had walked about 10 kilometers from her facility and it took the police almost half an hour to catch up to her. This lady jaywalked across 6 lanes of a highway with her eyes looking at her feet. We had seen a photo of her just before we left home.
