General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Link doesn't work but not surprising the SMH would come up with a negative article on the PM.
you already know my position.

Described by the author, a university academic as " So, I have a piece in @smh and @theage this morning on teachers, school and learning in the age of coronavirus." So not about Morrison at all :) (not)

Have you bought your copy of Malcolm's book yet?:p Apparently Scomo's office has been leaking it to all and sundry.

Why wouldn't they? it doesn't do Turnbull a lot of credit, on what's been 'leaked' (But surely its come from the publishers - never seen a political memoir that hasn't had lots of pre-publication self-promotion.

Some program on tv this morning, Outsiders? Lots of talking heads about how terrible the lockdown is in the UK and how police there are abusing their powers, etc.

When asked by the Aussie host how the population is reacting, the response was 'well, most Britons are supporting an even tougher lockdown'. Well, that kinda ended the interview.

Amazing that the only place those talking heads can get airtime is on some Aussie program. They're not being listened to in their own country.

You have to ask what is their agenda? Why agitate a country into demanding and end to restrictions that will lead to a spike in new cases?

I decided to follow ABC Hobart and Northern Tas on FB to get notified and listen to the Tas State Gov daily updates- now my previousLy sheltered news feed is filled with posts from ABC trying to stir everyone up - should the Gov have done x, why did the Gov not do this, etc.

There will be more of that outrage now because we don't have thousands of people in hospital and people being buried in makeshift graves as in Europe, UK and USA.

I don’t do Facebook, but can’t you just unsubscribe or ignore content if what you are now seeing is somewhat parochial?

Probably, but I also don’t really do FB so need to work out how to stop seeing all of the propaganda, but still get notification of the gov press conference

You would possibly be better off getting off FakeBook and downloading the ABC app on your phone and going to settings where you can select a subset of notifications such as state, subject criteria etc and only get the stuff you are interested in.

Yes. Well, you may also want to avoid Sky News if you want facts. 😀

Not to mention the ABC

In mid April cases stood at 6,500, by the same measure as Swan used for 'Monday'. Believe in magic rather than the ABC?

So I Googled 'Hanity'. Where on earth do you unearth these guys? You sure you don't have a secret other side? I recall you quoting Bolt the other day, supposedly 'told by someone else' IIRC . ;) 😄 Hmmm is that John Howard's book there on your shelf? Both editions?

Edit: Apologies - I didn't have my glasses on. This book?

In my defence, Renato seems to watch and quote nothing but Hanity. I’d never heard of him before.

Swan is a national treasure.

ps. Don’t need a book on Tuscany. Been there so many times over last 25 years for tourism, Italian courses, Vino Nobile di Montepulcian etc that my friends (yes I have some) and colleagues suggested I should write a travel guide.

Don't have a problem with this at all.

I'm not in the percent that think it came from a lab near Wuhan, but for heavens sake, the CCP needs to do some explaining, but of course they never will.

It appears that the CDC was incredibly sloppy for a major centre of disease control expertise. To quote "Two of the three C.D.C. laboratories in Atlanta that created the coronavirus test kits violated their own manufacturing standards, resulting in the agency sending tests that did not work to nearly all of the 100 state and local public health labs, according to the Food and Drug Administration." The article is from the NY Times but the findings were made by officials of the CDC investigating what went wrong. "In a statement on Saturday, a spokeswoman for the F.D.A., Stephanie Caccomo, said, “C.D.C. did not manufacture its test consistent with its own protocol.”

So now there's a new way to catch COVID-19!

Speaking on the Coronacast podcast Dr Norman Swan said people should avoid farting near one another to stop the spread of coronavirus. He added it was everyone’s responsibility not to pass wind close to another person and “that you don’t fart with your bottom bare”.

Is it reliable? The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind. (apologies to Bob Dylan,)
