General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

So this is the end of two weeks working from home. I love it.

I am more productive, don't have to get dressed in office clothes, cook lunch at home, and can put my Skype and Teams on busy when I don't want to be disturbed. I do have a sticky note over the camera on the work Surface Pro just so nothing is accidentally exposed. It's connected to two large screens so all good.

I listen to my radio without headphones. Have a scratch or adjust without a care, and no-one else knows if I've eaten dried fruit and yoghurt the night before.

The extra cost of energy is more than outweighed by the savings in train fares. I don't have any stress with a commute and have lots of extra time.

Internet and phone are unlimited so no extra cost. I've blocked the number on my outgoing calls so clients can't call back, they need to go through the call centre as per SOP. I talk to clients and they have no idea where I am, they don't care, they just want to receive a service.

My work computer system is totally separate from my personal system so it doesn't matter what I look at on my personal system, i.e. news, banking etc.

If I need to show a colleague something I just share my screen or program over Skype.

I don't get involved in useless chats with a colleague walking past me, I don't see or get involved in office politics.

I actually enjoy the solitude. We have a morning get together and while it was originally a video chat that quickly changed to voice only. Fifteen minutes and that's it. I interact as required.

We did have a discussion about how we were enjoying WFH this morning and everybody who's doing it, loves it. I can seriously see many people not wanting to go back to the office full time.

With the State of Emergency extended in Victoria I am hoping to continue WFH for at least the next month.

I desperately want to start travelling again, and having recently started a new job am enjoying the opportunity to accrue leave.

I know many, many people are doing it hard and have empathy for them. My colleagues in my PT role are still waiting for JobKeeper allowance.

II saw them wiping down the chair etc before I sat down, - all so far, so good, but then was rather uncomfortable as the person happily spoke and chatted quite merrily towards my face. I know they can't 'social distance', but I thought that was a bit careless. I was only a bit relaxed as it seems there isn't any virus in the Hobart area, except for trip returnees.
They weren’t wearing masks? All the hairdressers in my salon were. I always reckoned my hairdresser could talk under water and this proved it. Mask was no hindrance to her chatter :)

I'm also loving it and my HR and boss totally underestimate my ability to remain home 24/7.

I see that apparently from today we will see the effects of the easter break

the overall death toll and virus numbers has jumped from the past few days,

lets hope this is just random

They have been doing a lot more testing over the last few days. Apparently 9 of Victoria’s cases today were from hotel quarantine, including some from the Antarctica cruise.

What will be interesting is how the cases go as they ramp up community testing. We can’t do anything about imported cases (except quarantining them), but how many homegrown cases we have is more relevant for restrictions.

We have only had 1 case in a week in Canberra, but they have really lay just started community testing.

The jump was mainly due to quaratine cases including the Mortimer Cruise, and as they are in quarantine they are not really an issue.

With flights back soon from India and Bali no doubt we will see other spikes from them. But gain as they will be in quarantine they will not a be an issue.

Yeah I read They were mostly cruise related, so hence I'm hoping its an outlier

I think once testing is increased our cases will increase too.

Hopeflly just minor increases

Personally i doubt it will reveal many new cases as most cases are symptomatic and so in theory most people will have looked to be tested if they had CV19.

While some people are asymptomatic, you only stay positive for so long.

It will keep happening with each new batch of returnees. Though the Mortimer had a lot of its passengers who were infected.

It appears that we are not counting the Greg Mortimer pax who arrived in MEL with positive tests. It was said there were ~ 70 such pax.Maybe will be distributed to the State of origin when they leave mandatory detention.
I presume the 7 new cases reported for Victoria are either the Victorian residents or those that have tested positive since arrival-would help if that was made clear.

I thought that in general (and it's a while since I worked on one of the reporting systems), is that they ulimately get counted wherever their residence is.

Scomo's Message To Teachers

South Australian schools never closed and will reopen when school holidays are finished. Interestingly it was teachers spreading it to a couple of students. Only about half students showed up so distancing wasn’t an issue. On thing that was mentioned was that soap supplies needed improvement. And essential workers who can’t work from home need to have their children educated and supervised as grandparents can’t for the moment.

Their modelling suggests it is safer for all to be at school and not roaming. And their modelling has been pretty damn good so far. I’d be sending my kids to school if they were of that age.

So you want us to believe the experts when they tell us to social distance, quarantine, shut down businesses etc but when they say it is safe to keep schools open we don't believe them.
Just think what would happen if nurses decided it was too risky to work-and their workplace is much more of a risk than a school.

Teachers don't deserve Morrison's guilt trip
