General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Clearly some people still have money :) I have stopped buying everything except “essentials”.

Dogs have to eat, bubs need clothes, Mr FM’s pyjamas had a hole in them and I can’t watch the Dr Who I bought last year until I have the Christmas special that came before it and we are up to season 7 of Game of thrones - clearly all my purchases are essential :)

I finished up our financials for April and discovered even with my shopping we spent less than in March after allowing for paying taxes.

On everyday life spend has been relatively cheap. I put petrol in the car this week for the first time in 7 weeks and that only cost $27. We are only buying takeout once a week, it was more frequent to start with as we were trying to support local businesses, but we found the weight was starting to go up so back to the kitchen I went. No coffee mornings.

Things we have bought
- new duvets sets for both beds. However I should add I only have one sheet and one duvet cover for each bed, wash and put straight back on and current ones are 5 years old. I paid less than $300 for two sets, including pillow cases, from Williams Sonoma which was a steal. Prices are never that low
- a Breville Griddle - as husband is now home everyday it's a fulltime job keeping the monster fed. So it's been handy to throw on the lavash bread and make a quick toasted sandwich.
- Floor lamp. We have lived in our current residence for 18 months and the entire time we have been living in denial that we are moving out so it was quite depressing. I will freely admit lamps we had I had dumpster dived to get. 18 months of ugliness had to go.
- Indoor plants. I've only bought six but boy they have changed the look of the place and make me way happier when I see them. Of course one then becomes obsessed about indoor planters and styling of said plants.
- skin care. I've definitely overindulged as I've requalified as Sephora Rouge and it's only April. I'm not feeling bad about it as I've not had a hair cut for 3 months, doing my own which is rather tragic. I haven't had a facial for over a year, pedicure it's been months and only 1 massage in 6 months. I feel I'm due for some pampering.
- Clothes I have gone overboard on and need to stop that addiction. However not my fault as Stitchfix is in my face and on my phone showing me the possibilities of how fabulous I could look and obviously at this time I am bored and weak willed and so sick of living in the same 3 shirts and one pair of jeans since lockdown started,

My last Friday off work, our friday casual has quit. So much for easing into retirement. Will not look for a replacement until all this CV19 is over.
Booked flights to Japan yesterday for April next year. I figure if Japan has not got it all together by April for international guests, then the Olympics could be in danger.

Looks like the Polly Waffle is making a comeback after a lost decade.
@Toula92122 you are in the San Diego region of California I believe.
The virus really got going in California so lockdowns should slow it up a bit.
We are starting to feel a bit safer staying in Perth rather than Marina del Rey, California but I do miss the range of shopping.

But you have to remember only shops open here are supermarkets. Malls etc have been closed since the start of lockdown. Things have been much stricter here than in Oz. No hairdressers open here. Everything we buy besides groceries are online. Even the local parks have had periods of lockdown.

We have felt safe here in SD. Do you follow the LA Times as they have good coverage on CV in So Cal. Amazingly California has escaped hard core CV I think in large part due to Newsom's quick reaction to locking down.

How about this - also comes in yellow, I believe. All the rage, you know ... (and bonus: you can skip the hair and makeup!)

Yes I my need it. I work in a school! Although I have been missing the kids.

The government is supplying us with thermometers, masks and sanitiser, although they haven't sourced enough yet!
At least my work trousers still fit, winning!

@Toula92122 yes I get LA Times, Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg plus the occasional Trump joke in my emails.
I deal with lots of Republican business owners who love Trump because he cut their taxes.
Being over 70 and having a 93 year old mother in law at our home has meant we don't get out much but I went up to the Perth office at 5.45am and the traffic was quite heavy. I think Perth is going to get moving in the next couple of weeks as we are not getting many/any virus cases now.
Poly Waffles may be an acquired taste for our youngest generation.

Seeing as the people who did storm the State House are Trump supporters, they will be just fine. ☹️
I cant help but believe that if a group of people who are either black or muslim and armed stormed the State House, they would have been shot.

Master FM is n MountainView and he reckons he will be WFH for months still - he is very happy with the response.

Though one of the left's pin up boys is also demanding an easing of the lockdown.

Exactly what I would expect of him - self interest rules. Also a bit of a nutter - anyone remember the Thai cave stupidity!
