General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

My glowing opinion of him needs some brasso to shine it up right now. He seems to have passed into a world of self interest.

He's an interesting chap, isn't he? Very definitely self-interest in recent events, but he does run a philanthropic organisation that puts most other Billionaires and other rich-listers in Australia to shame. Real, practical philanthropy, not the Yarts for the elites for instance. Gina Rhinehart does similar to Forrest, but without the self-promotion.

He's currently on his second or third cycle of being a billionaire. His time at Anaconda Nickel was 'interesting'! 🙂

Happy wife, happy life.

If however it tastes no good, it was nice knowing you ;)

After the first bite she yelled out how tasty was, phew! I pinged my guys in India a photo and straight away they replied it's one of their favourite dishes. Excellent. In Hindi they call it Rajma Chawal. I must admit the taste was unlike any curry I'd had before so it's a definite redo.

I wonder how many realise that there is absolutely no chicken in chicken salt. 😀

‘Chicken’ salt. Mostly salt and some mysterious rubbish. No poultry products. 😳

Uh... Yeah! That's because it's meant to be seasoning for chicken... and I guess chips too ;) why would you season chicken with chicken!? 😏

Mrs FB brought me out a cup of tea with 'Little Miss Naughty' on one side and then this on the other - does that not seem relevant in these times? Sitting there looking out the window, thinking about being naughty and going out during the lockdown? Given it's sunny here, it does look like a nice day for being naughty 🤭

It's interesting to see how other bugs are going. In WA 20 cases of flu were recorded in April 2020, compared to 548 in April 2019.
There's also been 0 cases of measles, mumps, chicken pox, shingles or pneumococcal in the past week.

Nationally as of 27 April there had been only 179 flu cases for April 2020, compared to 18,667 for April 2019.

I'm curious as to when the model shifted from "manage this virus so we don't overwhelm our hospitals and ICU" to "eradicate this virus so we don't see it again"? The latter is simply unachievable if we are to have any kind of worthwhile Australian economy return.

In the words of your Premier :) (my bolding) paywalled in today's Oz.

South Australia is poised to lift its ban on intrastate travel within days and encourage residents to stay in beach towns, wine regions and at their holiday homes, while Western Australia last week increased permitted gatherings from two people to 10.

“The PM and the national cabinet considered which of the three major approaches we were going to have — eliminate, suppression or control,” Mr Marshall said.

“We decided to go for suppression, but the reality is some jurisdictions in Australia are already well on the way to elimination and SA is one of them.

“There’s a golden time for SA going forward because there is a growing recognition now that being successful doesn’t have to involve sitting on the 62nd floor of an office tower in Sydney or Hong Kong or London.”

I guess if we eliminate in Australia then at least we'll have some time at 'normal' before we have to open ourselves up to the world again.

Can't read it 😉. We have The Oz delivered and refuse to pay extra to see digital. Elimination was never the goal. And currently, we don't have anything like my idea of normal. That reality will hit come September when the Govt payments disappear or reduce. Say goodbye to many businesses that were highly profitable. But needed an active economy.

But you read his explanation in my post? 'Elimination' will be a happy bonus on top of their strategy of suppression. But I don't think they are meaning that it will be eliminated forever - just that we squashed it in Australia this time (if indeed that comes to pass).

Trying to get the balance right but also getting the media onside so that we don't have any mass panic.

I am hoping both football codes get up and running and that restaurants and cafes open obviously with some restrictions.

No point stalling the economy why waiting for a vaccine as that might take a few years.

Also suprised that some shows, plays, concerts aren't streamed, working as a group then people pay for watching it.

Also now that zoom seems to be a popular meeting app I wonder how many people will go and paint a wall in their house/study green.

I have been watching Paul Murray Live on Sky last few weeks, but I am surprised that some of his regular guests the computer/sound techs haven't improved their background appearance.

I missed that bit. 😂
We cannot go for elimination. Even though we currently are in that space. SA can’t afford to do that. We do need to travel interstate for work. Probably diverging from the Premier and SA Health now. Elimination was never in the initial advice from, umm, those agencies who provided such advice back in Jan - Feb. It was all about management of ICU. Flattening not elimination.

The CBR Community would love this I know. May have to mention it to Mr Snow!

You are very gloomy! I would hope to see some restrictions easing after Friday’s meeting and then a slow easing after that every two to three weeks if there is no huge breakout. Morrison and Kelly have said many times that there will be cases but as long as they can contain them quickly that is fine.

ACT has another case - weird one. Someone who was sick overseas recovered was in hotel quarantine for 14 days, with no symptoms, came back to Canberra and then developed mild symptoms. Testing has shown a low positive. They don’t think she was infectious but are checking contacts.

I am. Almost instantly we had multiple cancellations of work. So now when I see statements of elimination as opposed to management it strikes a chord. Maybe its the media speak and not what the Govt actually has in mind. 🤞

Although I just made myself a naughty but excellent bacon sandwich and it has improved the mood substantially.😂
