General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

We really don't need family groups of 4-6 with kids running around supermarkets as if everything is "normal". Not only does it make social distancing arrangements much harder, it also creates problems when the supermarkets go to limiting the amount of people in the stores at a time.
Oh yes - hadn’t even thought of it like that. Was thinking more of a family group being able to still get some exercise together.

It could be hard if the Mum can’t leave the kids and still needs to get groceries. Home deliveries are still problematic and you would hope over 70s would get priority and not every family has the support needed to not take the kids with them. Shopping with kids is so painful I find it hard to believe anyone does it from choice!

Yes, disappointing to get taken away from the IC to the Ibis. 🤭.
Well I would be devastated, but we all need to pull together.....

Enjoyed his answer to that silly Q regarding the foreign minister .... you would think these reporters would be more on their game.

The PM is doing a stellar job!
I wonder though if she may be rather ill.

Plus a very basic thing needs to be down immediately.

Walk on the left and watch where you're walking. Too many stupid people walking around with their face in their phones.
If we need to go to that level we have no hope.

I am... annoyed that he said same household groups are fine and that "public gatherings" means meeting with 1 other person that you don't normally live with.

That last one was accompanied by a statement that this was to ensure women did not have to fear being outside on their own. Sensible and practical solution IMO.

Very disappointing for some people who were bussed to the Intercontinental in Sydney but weren’t able to get in and so were sent off to the Ibis. 😕

And another hotel had a fire alarm so they all had to go down the fire stairs and stand out in the street.

Fire alarm at my building Friday .....
Unfortunately the gyprocker tasked to fill the hole left after replacing a leaky fire sprinkler head triggered the sprinkler...

Water Disaster affected 10 apartments
Floating floorboards ripped up in one apartment
Carpets ripped up in several
Discovered one tenant is in self-isolation. Had been tested and --ve

Luckily, public gatherings were <10, other than the firefighters mopping up were 5-8 in the one apartment.

And you discover how appalling your insurance cover really is,
Still all these bills can be forwarded to building insurance, and if rejected to the maintenance service insurer ....

Nightmare

I wonder though if she may be rather ill.

Given horrid reports from all over the world - very possible. But that reporter was angling more towards dereliction of duty.... more reading for that one!

We disagree, as we know. I don’t think he’s doing a very good job at all. But, he’s doing the best ‘he’ can given the politics and limitations. Too much inconsistent advice and then there’s hairdressers. But, he is trying and taking scientific advice on some things.

They had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the wages guarantee , finally, after the debacle of the minister from human services and Centrelink and they took far too long to lock down travellers from the US.

But, but, I concede they are finally getting their act together.

And I'll disagree with you too. 🤭 Yes he faltered badly with the bush fires. And the banning of public meetings. But he is doing the job he needs to do. And with sadness and compassion. The fact that the media isn't really interested in perceived faults spoken by the opposition especially today in their press statements, rather suggests he is doing well.

We are not there yet and it’s not all about the Prime Minister. - and yes, I’ve had a selfie with him in Jan 2018 SCG so I had seen a side of him others may not. That said the going to the footy and ban gatherings after Hillsong were “bones of contention”

People appear to OVERLOOK there are 5 Labor leaders and 3 LNP plus ScoMo on the National cabinet.

So amazingly Tas With a Lib moved first on moratoriums on evictions and border closes and my brother says payroll tax refunds /grant concession ALREADY in the Bank
WA with a Labor Premier has left business “swinging in the breeze”. No immediate cash...
Info on rent moratoriums ought have been announced a week ago, but I digress

I think THEY ALL got it Right on safety net support - but the process was as bad as the Census.

What It does prove is that Australians are actually paying attention and do what you asked....

That was discussed day one. Many on here had no idea.... and some didn't take kindly to being informed ;)

And a lot of people surprisingly walk straight down the centre of any walkway or aisle.

Or they could just make men stay at home all the time so women can always feel safe and go anywhere they like.

Not very PC of the PM.

Sexist remark. What about men who need someone to accompany them if they want to feel safe when they go out? ;)

Some women can get pretty nasty. Have had a few women sitting at emergency workers in recent times. Gender does not always equate with violence.

..and some of them are quite overweight and would crush diminutive emergency workers ;)

The PM also talked about changing family dynamics and DV. All very honest, practical, and more than likely advised by the experts advising the national cabinet. Very practical stuff, but I suppose difficult for some to comprehend.

Ended up standing 2 meters behind a girl i went to highschool with whilst waiting for the checkout at coles today, she is a bus driver and was asked to drive arriving passengers from Syd Inetrnational Airport to hotels today, she said she declined.

I wish people would refrain from bringing kids to the supermaket, it was near impssoble to keep distance from Mum, Dad and their 3 kids today - why couldnt one parent stay at home with the kids?
