General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

You don't think that's going to happen in the good ol' USA?
Boy some people don't listen.VP Pence announced well over a month ago that the Corona Task force had come to an agreement with all heath Insurers that there would be NO out of expenses for the diagnosis and treatment of the virus.
Also that their Medicare/Medicaid system would cover everyone else.
I have posted the link before.

But in reality people may be getting the test for free but simply arent being given access to it. Fever, malaise, 1 week off Ruby Princess = red flag but not in NY it seems.

Testing is a bit pointless when the infection rate is so high.
They transition to assuming everyone is positive and just deal with the treatment demands as best they can.

Then the USA failed to develop a test that worked, and also failed in allowing others to be deployed. Even now they still have a huge lack in available tests, though that is starting to change..
Not quite right. The initial form of the CDC test was a 3 stage test and wasn't reliable. It didn't take too long to realise that it was the 3rd stage causing the problem and just doing the first 2 stages was reliable.Again I have posted these links before.
As for test numbers they have already changed.
Certainly if you just look at the CDC figure for tests you would think they are way behind.

But most testing is now done in private labs and these are the approximate numbers-not all labs report regularly.

And by State. As you can see NY is the major problem.Of the 16729 patients hospitalised 10054 are in NY.That is ~ 60% of the national total.
Does that tell us that the local politicians have been derelict in their duty?Of course not.it tells us that NYC is the area of densest population in the USA and why keeping people apart is the best thing we can do to prevent the virus spreading.

Because NYC is being slammed.Health care workers are extremely busy and lack time to test everyone.Besides if the test is positive she will be told to self isolate. So hopefully that is what she has been told to do.

So in reality the statistics are all going to get blurred and we will no longer be able to ascertain whether measures are working or not.

‘Family violence perpetrators using COVID-19 as 'a form of abuse we have not experienced before'

As a rise in family violence due to the coronavirus crisis is set to strain an already critically overstretched social support system, some abusers are reportedly using COVID-19 as a psychological weapon.

Bunnings was stupidly busy. Aisles roped off to limit numbers but that didn't stop people walking far too close to me. Got in, got what I needed and got out of there quick smart.

Juddles most of the factories we deal with in China have been able to restart but are not yet back to full production.

Son and partner just went to Costco out near PERTH Airport and they were excited by the Kirkland private label business clothes as well as the maple syrup and the fuel price at 95 cents.

Sadly it needs iOS 12. No thought about phones with earlier versions

The current plan is to try stop the virus as much as possible, slow it down, so that hospitals can cope with the number of acute care patients. Let the virus was through the population in a slow controlled manner. With the thinking that a herd immunity would then protect for future returns. So what would happen if a state in SA, lets say Tas or SA was very successful in stopping the virus, and positives reduced to single digits. Then the concept of herd immunity evaporates. What happens then?

For red or white wines? :)
If for reading, yes.
Lol for reading. I am doing a significant greater amount of reading and wasn't wearing my reading glasses and have discovered this to be the cause of my headaches.
However I don't like these glasses and would like another pair. Not essential but would be nice to have

I go to The Optical Superstore - Medicare eye test, Health fund rebate on glasses. But there are many others. If you don’t need prescription glasses then 2 times magnifying glasses for $20 from pharmac_ would do but suggest better to get eye test and prescription lenses.
