General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

I am missing Japan and also the ability to plan holidays.
Seema weird not to have a few bookings in my Qantas app.
Though I do have to say my home is definitely being tidied :)
First year in the last 16 that I won't be doing an annual DONEx. 😱😢

Was due to leave home on 27 April for 13 weeks. Withdrawal symptoms will bite then, I reckon. 😱

I know how you feel!

Unlike @Denali's nephew though, Mrs FB has made me a Chocolate Guinness Cake for my birthday (busy day, the 4th!) courtesy of a Nigella Lawson recipe.

I'm missing seeing my kids. They won't visit. They've told me they would never forgive themselves if they made me ill with this evil virus.

The swedes continue to pay a high price for their relaxed Covid arrangements.
When the lockdown inevitably comes the infection explosion will probably continue along with the death rate.

One must now feel optimistic about a treatment sooner rather than later ; in that case the flatter the curve the better.

I think Brazil is going down the same track.

Same here 😢

Though I really don't understand what Japan is doing around this current mess.
Most of my Japan trips over the last few years have been built around attending events run by 2 different companies.
One company started cancelling and postponing events in mid Feb. They are actively monitoring the situation and are proactively cancelling or postponing events. They have currently removed events through late May.
The other company has only cancelled events during the 2 week period when the National Diet told everyone to cancel everything in early March. They still expect to run the planned 35,000 seat event in Saitama in early May (when the other company cancelled an entire weeks worth of events for the same time) and just rescheduled one of their cancelled March events for early June.
When Japan is about to get hit big time with the Tokyo Prefecture government asking to lockdown the capital and Osaka expecting to have 3000 cases within a few weeks.

It's looking that way for me as well.
I've had an xONEx yearly since 2006. (06 was an LGLOB26, 07-10 were LONE4s, 11-18 DAS13+DONE3 and last year a DONE3 with some extra side tickets) Mid year for the first few, later in the year since 2010.
With predictions that Australia will have travel issues on some level until September, the US likely to be having issues until early to mid next year and the current unknowns about when different borders will reopen... 😳😖😢😭

You might want to edit this post .... The French and Germans have been doing it for months. Typical of these two - whinge, whinge, whinge...

To add to the grim situation, my cousin is at his place in Palm Springs and they had a 4.9 earthquake overnight!

Though being an essential worker doesn't totally get you off the hook with isolation going into Tasmania.Yes I can have an apartment rather than being put into a hotel of their choosing.but I must promise to stay in the apartment in a room with only 1 bed.Can only go out to work or for something essential for my survival.I.ve taken food as essential but will only visit the supermarket once in the 14 days.

I've been wanting to adopt a dog for a while, but have held off due to my travelling, so when I knew I was going to be grounded for a while I thought (like everyone else it seems!) that this would be a good time. Virtually no availability of the small dog I would need (small property), so now looking at cats as well. The advice to 'hold off' is excellent, however if I do that, I'll (hopefully) be travelling again soon afterwards :(

You can buy a puppy. But, buyer beware, they will be around for 15+ years .... we have two, and love them very much!

We're already three OS trips down, 3 more to cancel, and that's not counting the impulsive stuff .... the things we have to do!

There’s a challenge. Time to plan a holiday in 2021. Opportunity to spend all the money I’m saving by not going out.

P-Skip, I suspect that the article about the cessation of Corona beer production is an April Fool's Day joke....

Here’s the tweet of the announcement from Grupo Modelo, 2 April announcement date doesn’t quite fit April Fools. Unless the Mexico Govt was pulling their leg the day before! Seems that they are pinning their hopes on being determined to be an essential service.

Woolworths is expecting a stage 4 to be rolled out soon, based around what some areas in the US and Europe are doing. They've mentioned that they have a letter drawn up ready to send to staff that can be used to prove that they are essential workers should lockdowns get tightened.
They also have letters available that will get staff across closed state borders and avoid any isolation requirements that state may have, but you need approval from the stage manager to get one of those.

One of our businesses was issued the letter last week. We can issue the same to anyone we feel is required to complete business. Must say, very unexpected, very appreciated. We are hiring - in a big way. It' s a great feeling to be able to hire in these times.

Sometimes I don't really know what the politicians are trying to do. First Dan Andrews talked about flattening the curve and introduced Stage 3, and now the curve is flattening, then why's there a need for Stage 4? It's like shifting goal posts.

P-Skip, am unsure if my last post on the Corona beer thing stuck - but to reiterate, the Mexican government has decided to shut down all "non-essential" services. Corona beer is seeking clarification that they are an agricultural (and hence essential) service. They have not stopped making the beer - they have just reduced output whilst they try to seek clarification with the Mexican government. It is expected that (due to their economic importance) this will be clarified within days. So, it is not an April Fool's Day thing (my bad), but rather an inaccurate media portrayal.

And I thank you for bringing this up - you, as always, are a very reliable and significant bringer of topics :)

Yes, agree with all that. The trouble is I've encountered many eejits who also seem completely oblivious to the distancing concept and have even come to stand between crosses on the floor in the supermarket where my space seemed to be their invitation to stand in front of me. If that guy sneezed then who knows. The store wasn't crowded, it was controlled by arrows but people being eejits kill off any chance of it working. Coupled with the fact he was still in his work out gear after a run. I told him to move, pronto out of my space but he looked like he had no idea what I was talking about.

At least if everyone wore some kind of face covering they'd wear their own mess and not throw it on to everything in sight. Of course, these would be not supplies required by medical personnel. Although how on earth we've come to be in such short supply is an issue for a later day.
sorry to hear you live in the same neighbourhood as Renato!
