Yes I don't think we could get away with the Singapore response here sadly - people are too boofheaded.

I'm due to fly back home SYD-MCY on wednesday where I will get some welcome relief not being the sole clinical pathologist for the entire lab! Ahh bliss. Please don't close the airport before then 😢

Are you suggesting he's not
Mmm some of the things said - like, handshaking is still okay - suggest no.

No touching! ;)

To be honest we're all out of our depth. I've got major research background about RNA virus behaviour during outbreaks and I'm floundering as much as anyone. Mainly with how to speak to the media :D

The Victorian CHO today advised citizens of his state to;

We’re also asking Victorians to think about buying a small amount of extra food and other essential supplies for themselves, for their pets, and for others they may be caring for.

That does not mean stockpiling – but planning sensibly as you shop.

Thinking about what extra items you’d like in your pantry and by shopping accordingly – for food such as non-perishables like dried fruit and nuts, canned foods and vegetables, beans, coffee, cereal, and pasta.

You don’t need too much, just a two-week supply of food and a 30-day supply of prescription medication.

I doubt he's been to a supermarket this week, that's as far as I'll go without gong in to the pharmaceutical side of things...

EDIT: Oh how subtle. The previous version of this same release was different and has been amended.

The original release stated Victorians gather a 60-day supply of prescription medication.

Thanks k_sheep.Yes I think most of us are well and truly behind the 8 ball.Wonderful how so many know exactly what to do.but then there is Singapore-not totally locked down but a population who are willing to do what they are asked particularly in regards to personal hygeine.
It is amazing watching news items trying to seriously present the facts but see the reporter constantly touching objects and then their face.Especially the goose on 60 minutes.

But boy is it hard. Both of us are really practising hard to get things right and have our supplies of disposable gloves and disinfectant wipes. Our hands have never been cleaner. :)

But touching your face can be an automatic reaction.getting better but no where near perfect yet.😞

When out I have taken up the Duke of Edinburgh walk-hands firmly clasped behind the back-much easier then not to touch other surfaces.

The big decision now that I have more time is whether to accept other locum posts.I am a little scared as hospitals are a great Petrie dish so may just remain unemployed-I would feel safer in Singapore.

The CMO is unfortunately out of his depth, he's a nephrologist. He needs to get good advice from infectious diseases, public health and epidemiologists.

Victoria ramping up elective surgeries is just plain irresponsible too - purely a commercial decision. There is insufficient PPE (gowns, masks etc) for front line staff predicted going forward; so they are squandering it now.

Pardon any cranky vibes ... getting worn out already!

I agree. The CMO hasn't led up to now. There needs to be a more forceful response.

The Queensland government are attempting to ramp elective surgery. I don't think there will be enough time. I think it will be well established by Easter.
If you were a patient, ask yourself - do you want to go to the Covid19 hospital to have your knee or gallbladder done?

drron, I wouldn't do any locums. It won't be long until healthcare workers start testing positive.

Ok, I understand your sentiment but locums (rightly or wrongly) support a lot of areas in Australia and are critical in delivering help to people who really need it :)

I am starting to feel exhausted by COVID19 as I am helping family and friends wind back travel bookings as they see me as an expert. Once done later this week (Thursday is cancellation deadline for cruising ) am going to try and take a bit of a detox for a few days. Anyone else feeling the same?

Absolutely I think a self isolation holiday for the nation which I suspect isn’t far off might be great for mental health.

I’m staying involved because I work closely alongside healthcare professionals and there is so much rubbish information out there that needs calm correction.

Totally agree with this, medical staff are our front line and should be supported but tending to sick people is largely the job signed up for. Personally I’m very grateful we have such people in our society.
