Unfortunately the problem is that the app is basically useless. (And govt tech advisors knew it but they persisted with the falsehood to make people think they had a solution.)
And the point of doing all that is? What is the Govt agenda?

Don’t ask me. No idea. Maybe to give people the impression they are doing something to give people some sense of safety. Just would be good if they were honest about these things.

Giving people false hope is bad policy. Why would people trust them next time.

We haven't been able to go to our regular pub quiz so the quiz master has been sending out 25 questions each week for us to answer.

This week there was a photo with who is this?

The answers just arrived and this was his response - Daniel Andrews VIC Premier .. W@NKER was also marked correct.

make people think they had a solution

It was never touted as a 'solution'. It was only ever touted as an aid to manual contact tracing and its imperfections were well known, ever since it got taken apart at the start by whoever did that sort of stuff.

Given the under-download rate as wanted by the government (is that the governments fault? ) AND the 'relative' low number of infections Australia has had since the app's launch, the low number of assists (it isn't zero) neither surprises or concerns me.

Oh, and that story comes courtesy of Senator Rex Patrick, of Centre Alliance. Well, well ... He supports the intent of app, but doesn't like the 'dishonesty'. So its just the Age giving oxygen to a political attack on the government. Ho hum .

Now let’s not bring politics into it.

I think a sense of safety was the furthest thing on their minds. It was about timely information. And if uptake was better AND there was a sharp increase in numbers then it would have worked. Trouble is that the only state experiencing a spike is Victoria. But if I was sitting next to someone for a train ride into Flinders Street station, or I had attended and waited and been treated by a Nurse now known to have Covid in a large Public Hospital in Victoria then I would like to know that and make my own decisions.

The UK planned to release a similar app but after testing on the isle of white found that just like ours it didn’t work successfully enough and the bluetooth system in current phones just wasn’t designed for this type of locale detection. They have withdrawn the app and postponed wider release until android and Apple release newer OS versions with enhanced abilities.

At least they didn’t attempt to hide the failures.

The 6.5 million downloads in Australia and not one useful detection says it all, unfortunately. Would be lovely to get paid millions of dollars to develop apps that can’t and don’t work! 😷 🐱

am in melb, my local gym has reopened,

in 2 minds as to whether to go back, their social distance polices seem very good

playing devils advocate, if I catch covid from the gym, id say "pretty stupid to be going back to the gym when infections are at its highest"

If you're in a hot spot area there is no way I'd go back just yet

MrP went back to the gym as soon as it opened a couple of weeks ago but many just haven't returned. While he enjoys the ease of car parking and ready access to equipment he's a little concerned about financial viability. He's been a member here for decades. They are doing cleaning and distancing extremely well.

im in a suburb that has zero/.virtually zero cases, however that doesnt make the area immune, it is possible that there are people that are infected that just dont know

thats a good read,

also saw this today

which obviously is just a small study,
im most likely going to leave it for another month,

That was written over a year ago. Given that gym goers haven't died of the plague I'm not sure the relevance of the article.

MrP did notice that one guy was wearing a mask and blue gloves while working out. 😉. One thing everyone needs to have according to the gyms Covid plan, is a towel to wipe down (staff then wipe down with wipes). Staff checked everyone working out if they had one. He didn't have one!

Interesting innovation, helps when using iPhone facial recognition. Apparently FDA approved device.

The ATO must be hemorraghing money right now. Instead of paying in the (very much lower) tens of thousands of dollars for GST collection, PAYG. and Advance company tax, it has all been wiped with the Cash Flow boost payment plus a credit to be paid in the next few days. And we are just an itty bitty company. And then later in the week the next JobKeeper will arrive. I cannot imagine any other Government doing so much to try keep businesses going. Makes me want to do everything possible to hang in our business so we can start to just very slightly contribute again to the public purse.

So, in the current Victorian situation, has anyone seen any mention or stats on whether the great phone tracing app has been used or has found any contacts?

People had to download for it to work. Given the current audience that’s unlikely.
