Any Richmond fans here? Trying hard to see why anyone would support such a gutless and pathetic rabble.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Amazing! We're in the lead and I just took a handball from Joey Daniher.

Go bombers!

I dont get why the players were banned but not the team.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Not all the players were medicated.

I'm over it: a massive failure of corporate governance IMHO. If I never see Hird at the club again, it will be too soon.
Ex-chairman, David Evans, was too much a nice guy and trusted his underlings too much; but again a total lack of governance (hope he runs his stockbroking firm with better discipline): at least he resigned early on.

The club was punished with millions of dollars fines and (arguably more punishing) loss of draft picks for two years.

As an aside, one of my client's sons was in the training list for an AFL club. He's been given tablets and food supplements he's told to take, he's been told they're legal, and if he doesn't take what he's given, he risks not being selected or dropped. As a result, he's decided to go back to playing suburban football.

Anyhow, we renewed our memberships to support the players, not the hierarchy.

Now at home, relieved and happy, with a hoarse voice just barely above a whisper, and looking forward to sushi washed down with some Moet.

Go Bombers!

And that is EXACTLY why the players are right to feel hard done by the club. Most of them were kids fresh into the system, and had no reason not to trust the advice they were given by the team medicos and training staff. What choice did they have.
Hird's handling of the whole saga from start to finish was disgraceful. He betrayed his players more than once.

But those who were, were medicated by the Club. If they are banned from playing then so the club should be banned.

Port traded a player before the scandal broke - why should they be penalised?

Agree re Hird. Admired him greatly as a player but his recent actions are scummy.

I am amazed at how many people still stick up for Hird when so many other would like to put the stick up Hird :!:

Problem with Hird, is he was a Golden Boy at Essendon. After Sheedy got put out to pasture, many of the steady hands at Essendon also got pushed out which led to more and more risk taking without much oversight.

Considering the cough the stuff Essenjab supporters dish out to Footscray, I have no sympathy for their club or their supporters.

Just remember Essendon, all your suburb is know for is a club that cheated multiple times and a few overrated schools whereas Footscray was essential for the growth of Melbourne and Australia.

Wow, I didn't see that coming ..... didn't take you long to personalise this discussion with that attack. Quite pathetic, really.

I've worked in the Western Suburbs for over 40 years, have treated Scragga (more likely his great great grand parent); I count amongst my clients former players with the Western Bulldogs and a current board member. I have always treated them with the utmost courtesy and respect, and have never "dished out cough", even in jest. I have no particular animosity towards the WBs (even if their flooding cost us a clean sweep in 2000). Bob Murphy has come to our local auskick when my kids were younger and always enjoyed talking to him and admired the way he gave generously of his time and spirit in encouraging the youngsters.

That's another massive failure of governance. The club should be prepared to show proof that it's legal. They should also accept a player saying "I'll take it when you give me written proof that it's legal". It's not that hard, surely.

You had to have to live in Suburbs like Footscray, West Footscray, Braybrook, Maidstone, Sunshine, Yarraville, Kingsville, Brooklyn, Newport, Altona etc to know the actual divide between these locales and the Essendon superiority complex because they had white collar jobs (Vs Blue Collar) and their self important independent/state schools.

Considering Essendon has also been done for Salary cap cheating and an illegal drug program.

My old state school Vice Principal was in the Essendon old circle. Despite all the footballing talent he saw, I don't think any player or surrounds from my school ever played for Essendon and he came from the Valley below (We are above the Maribyrnong Valley). Geez even Scott West (St Bernards) came to the Doggies.

Thanks for taking care of Scragga but Sid is the new Bulldog in town.

Terry Wallace played the perfect tactical game which won me a couple of hundreds of dollars.

coriander if you don't live where I live, then you don't have to notice cough like this?

Going to be another very long year..... September can't come soon enough.

Given the players are ultimately responsible under WADA code this is pathetic... They should be provided with a list of exactly what they are given, to give them the opportunity to check with independent people if they want

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Great win to end a weekend full of footy! Go Swannies! My 14 year old ran boundary for first grade and premier division in the black diamond league yesterday (wore his Garmin and clocked an average over 2.5km a quarter). Hubby and sons coached the under 9 team this morning, then 14 year old umpired under 11s, 12 year old played under 13s and then 14 year old played under 15s. Not bad for a family with 2 kids, oh and I managed the under 15s.

Going to be a long long year for Saints fans. Can't see any encouraging signs they'll be competitive again this decade.

Shame they couldn't win a grand final from 2004-2012 when they arguably had the best team in the competition.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Hoping Essendon make the eight with Colllingwood and Richmond 8th and 9th
