General Medical issues thread

For me? They don’t want to see me again til my annual check up in December
Yes, sorry for some reason your post didn’t come up in my reply. Ok, that’s rather good then. And hey, you will be in your new home by then!

Last year peak presentation for flu-like illnesses was in September

745 deaths from confirmed influenza (Jan-Nov)
Most in elderly
Or 1 death per 318 notifications of confirmed influenza

Influenza is serious stuff.

Both of us had the new quad flu shot today. No issues with the shot and it is 3 weeks before we head back to the US.

I had it yesterday. Have had no ill effects at all, not even soreness where it was given.

Someone from work had it and has a runny nose etc, but most have said only soreness at the site. I'm going to have mine on Monday so that if I get sick from it, it won't ruin my weekend. ;)

MrP had his yesterday. He’s fine too. The runny nose came from something else. Might have been brewing and the immune response working on the flu shot so it sneaked in. MrP had it on the weekend so it didn’t affect his work. He’s a bit busy at the moment because I am forcing him to go overseas for 4 weeks with me.

I was going to have mine on Tuesday. Sometimes runny nose and nagging cough. Think I had better reschedule flu shot for another week.

Had my flu shot today. Dr was able to find a reason to give it to me for free. And no it wasn't age!

I was impressed with his ability to inject me without me feeling it.

I think they must be using very fine needles for this shot as I agree it was quite painless, almost sensation free.

Going to have to drag my husband kicking and screaming to the GP and maybe an ENT.

Three times over the past 18mths (1 x 18ths ago, twice in 3mths) hes had a strange "episode" and hes choking. A herb (parsley on garlic bread or a bit of durkah on fish) and on Saturday a sprinkle from a donut. He says that he breathes in (its happened when laughing or talking) and it lodges in his nasal cavity and suddenly hes unable to breathe - Im talking, choking, unable to inhale, is he going to die unable to breathe.

It last about 30-60 seconds but Saturday was really scary and I ended up giving him back thrusts because it didnt seem to clear (didnt know what else to do). He says its not in his throat but in his nose. I wonder if its some sort of spasm.

He rarely snores and doesnt seem to have apnea (Ive not caught him skip/not breathing).

After almost two years of blotchy patches on my face, I finally went to a dermatologist last week. My GP put me on doxycycline. I'd been taking the doxycycline for 5 weeks when I saw him. He diagnosed roasacea, rosacea acne actually, and was pretty surprised my face didn't look better after 5 weeks on doxycycline.
He's put me on Minomycin instead, and Soolantra cream at night.
I go back for review in 6 weeks' time, and will see one of the other doctors in his practice. He said Roaccutane is a possibility if my face hasn't improved. I took roaccutane back in 2000 when I got married, so that I wouldn't have cycstic acne in my wedding photos (at the insistence of a relative).
