General Medical issues thread

Yes, if I eat a packet of these in the afternoon I need a nap :p:p

Parents searched all over and couldn't find me any packs :(

Ahhhh vitamin D. The most overused test of this decade. Done by GPs and hospital doctors for any random reason with little to no understanding of the indications or what to do with the result other than "take tablets" at great expense.

The reference ranges, put simply, are NOT APPLICABLE for the general population (they were created for people who already have pathological fractures). So EVERYONE shows up as "deficient". Load of codswallop.

Where's that forehead smacking emoji?
My Specialist ordered the test.

I've had a funny stomach ever since I started taking the liquid Vitamin D capsules.
So I went hunting in Chemist Warehouse where I found solid tablets in the Bio Organics brand.
Regards,
Renato

You can get liquid drops. No tablets. One drop on your hand, lick it off, done.

Dad's in hospital and they are keeping him overnight. He's fallen down 3-4 times the past few days. He's in a lot of pain and struggles to stand up.

I've been checking Zimmer frames but cannot for the life of me see where to buy one or even borrow one. Not interested in the frames with wheels.

Hospitals?

Why not wheels? It means they have to be picked up each step. They don’t make sense to me. I’d check what the physios in hospital say before making decisions. They will know what is best.

My mother has a walker with wheels and as long as it is a good one with good brakes and good size wheels it fine. Remember she is nearly 96! She has a 4 wheeler as she feels the 3 wheel ones are less stable. She has a ride on scooter for when she goes out and uses the walker in the house. She did buy a smaller walker to put in the back of the scooter for in shops but doesn't use it as she is not strong enough to get it out and unfolded. She said she would have got a lot of use out of it though if she had bought it much earlier. She also has a couple of walking sticks and one with four prongs which is very stable for her.
As Pushka says the physio at the hospital should have a good idea of what is needed.

I don't think wheels is a good idea just yet. Dad is falling over. Just need something to stabilise him for now. Not sure what they will find in hospital.
