Hopefully then she will be able to rest a bit. It's a hard life being a teacher and I should know after many years in the game.:)
it sure is and particularly at this time of year when you have to add prize giving nights and year 12 dinners to marking and reports. Still at least she gets a lovely long break quite soon.

I want to get her out in the reserve with the walking poles quite soon, as she is going to need them on the ice (me too).

Im not sure if they would be useful but we saw a few people with strap on crampons/ice grips, not full shoe ones but only 2 or 3 sets of spikes. The ice was quite slippery at times. It seemed worse when there was a bit of a slope in the paths especially after the snow had been well trodden.

thats interesting - might ask her about that. - thanks. She has trouble with slopes generally without it being slippery.

Struggling with left leg.

Severe pain in the pelvis this time not so much the hip. Struggling to get up, struggling to get clothes on in morning, struggling to walk. Pain if I need to put any pressure on the leg. Some of the time I actually need to balance myself before setting off. Not easy.

No sign of next rheumatology appointment. Not sure they can do anything anyway. steroi_s? The feeling from 2 x Nurofen Plus and 1 x Panadeine Forte is nice but don't want to keep taking this medication.

Hi John,
Sorry to hear that, but I don't understand why if you are in such severe pain, you don't have decent painkillers? I've had the same discussion with another friend in a similar painful situation (her back) who has the same medication as you. 25mg of Tramadol would provide far more pain relief than what you are taking. I get that from getting a packet of 100mg Tramadol SR (Sustained Release) and breaking the tablet up into four bits. Or just taking the whole tablet, since that lasts about 8 to 10 hours. For me, the 50mg Tramadol IR (Immediate Release) capsules are overkill.

It seems that many Doctors are reluctant to prescribe Tramadol for some reason, even though it is non-addictive to people who haven't been addicted to opiates before.
Regards,
Renato

I tried Tramadol about 15 years ago and didn't help. Perhaps a higher dose could help. I find 25mg Prednisone helps occassionally with the inflammation but I'm not sure that would be acceptable treatment.

Personally I prefer not to take painkillers. They just help the mind and nothing else. If I take painkillers it is a last resort.

Hi John,
After last year's back operation and trying out lots of painkillers, well, Endone/Targins are the best but can be addictive, while Tramadol is a lot less effective than the latter, but way better than Codeine.

I find pain to be painful. Can't see any reason to put up with it. And niggly little pain that I do put up with gives me high blood pressure, till I take a couple of Ibuprofens.
Regards,
Renato

My concern with painkillers is the effect on the liver and in the case of Ibuprofens the effect on the stomach but not as bad as Naprosyn. Mum has been taking for a long time and it has ripped her stomach lining. She now uses sparingly.

One that gets me is how pain moves. My issues appear to be left hip/knee but last week it was the pelvis hurting and the past few days it's the lower back behind hip joint. But the worst one of the lot is the left ankle pain. Feels almost like Achilles heel inflammation and sometime when I step while walking the left ankle sort of gives way. Scary.

Pain is evil but I can put up with pain and discomfort most times but occassionally it's unbearable.

As soon as one area feels pain then you change your gait/posture accordingly when can then set up an issue in another area.

Ms FM won’t touch Endone - she was given it when she was 15 for a knee operation - she was just about addicted in 5 days. Her next 2 operations she refused to touch it and made do with panadeine forte and then Panadol.

Endone did nothing for me. A bit sad really, I was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about.

I have only had oxycodone once and it was glorious. I hope I never need it again.
