General Medical issues thread

The Red Cross I believe are obliged to do 'theraputic' vinosections, on referral from your doctor. They can use the blood, except for usual exclusions.

They've done mine for years.

Don't worry about the personal questions!

I love Therapeutic VINO.....SECTIONS,,,,any particular vintage red or whitte? lol

Update: I've been able to keep down 4 sips of water and 2 paracetamol..... I might hold off for now. Will either send Mrs Flashback off on the trek on her own if she wants, or call them and see if we can push it back a day.

Treadmills are boring instruments of torture.. take a dog and walk somewhere interesting….
Unless you read watch a movie or something.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Diabex XR 500 (metaformin hyrdrochloride 500mg).

Doctor has been saying she thinks wife is pre diabetic and has prescribed this. Wife is 51kg, BMI 20.2, fasting glucose 4.8 for recent blood test and the previous 10 months ago, so within normal range far as I can see. Wife is concerned she is taking too many tabs (lipitor and pariet).
BSl 4.8 certainly does not indicate one is pre-diabetic nor the BMI 20. Lipitor is a Statin and Pariet is an PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) it should be ok. Why ? Walking is much better

lipitor like other Statins can trigger type 2 Diabetes - perhaps the doctor is concerned about this?
Medical school Axiom is that one does not treat the side effect of medication with another medication.

Perhaps her HbA1c was or it’s trending upwards? or might have had a pre and post sugar levels checked?

Sugar levels are like a snapshot of what sugars are doing at an specific time.

HbA1c is like a short video of the average sugars over a period of time (6-8 weeks)

Do you know why only 6-8 weeks on average?

Next challenge, what to nibble on. Haven't eaten in a day so feeling a bit peckish. The only problem is almost all food here is fried in some way or full of sugar...!

Plain toast and sliced banana seems to be a goer. Hotel should be able to bring up to the room. Yay.

Looking forward to such a flavorsome meal.... ;)

Rice can help as well. You will pick up with gastrolyte kind of drinks too. Replaces all the minerals you’ve lost and takes away that frail feeling. You can suck on gastrolyte made into ice blocks that helps to stay down.

Flashback that method of sudden weight loss isn’t anyone’s preferred option. Hope you make a quick recovery to get out of that hell hole.

Thanks guys, even sipping slowly over hours on the rehydration sachets was no good, it all came back up. Finally got the WiFi working from my bed in hospital, hoping the Dr will give me the all clear to go home in a few hours... AMEX were a bit odd to deal with but hopefully no issues covering the $1000 USD a night bill.

Sorry to hear that, but glad you are being properly looked after.

Never thought plain crackers would taste so good! First food in 1.5 days :)

That's good to hear. I find dry biscuits work well if (when) I've had a throwing up episode. Glad you went to the hospital and didn't try to treat it yourself. Dehydration is a big risk.
I think the hike may need to be put off further as you will still be very weak.
Hope the improvement continues though - sounds like you are over the worst of it.
