General Medical issues thread

That's good to hear. I find dry biscuits work well if (when) I've had a throwing up episode. Glad you went to the hospital and didn't try to treat it yourself. Dehydration is a big risk.
I think the hike may need to be put off further as you will still be very weak.
Hope the improvement continues though - sounds like you are over the worst of it.

I think I'll send off Mrs Flashback on her own, don't want her to miss out. They were happy to reschedule it to tomorrow.

I still feel a bit dehydrated even after 5 bags of IV but hopefully it'll kick in soon.

Mrs Flashback searched the shops for dry crackers everywhere and couldn't find any! Thankfully the hospital had some. Let's see if I can keep them down... :)

They've given me an IV for the nausea so hopefully that'll help.

Life could be worse, it's small on the scale of things really.

Good luck with the biscuits - the chicken soup (?) looks OK too.

Will two sugarless Vitamin C tablets per day change a diabetes 2 score and if so how long will it take to get an improvement?
I am wanting to drop from the 6.2 to 7.0 readings to sub 6.0 and a low dose of Diabex has not changed the number after about 5 months.
Does using big muscle groups drop your sugar if they say the muscles are used they
Thanks guys, even sipping slowly over hours on the rehydration sachets was no good, it all came back up. Finally got the WiFi working from my bed in hospital, hoping the Dr will give me the all clear to go home in a few hours... AMEX were a bit odd to deal with but hopefully no issues covering the $1000 USD a night bill.
its Chubb insurance that is the underwriter and they do look carefully at the qualifying criteria.

Runs through AXA in the UK. The qualifying criteria is simply holding the Platinum Charge Card, no expenses ha e to go on it. Main one is just it's not a pre existing condition.

That’s good really good in Australia you have to spend minimum 250 towards the spend on the ticket! Even if your a Centurion Card holder. This is a real downgrade!

Strangely though the PDF policy doc says Chubb but I think maybe it's different just for medical, all dealings are with AXA in that case.

Back at work after 2 days in hospital to have 2 kidney stones removed, would rather be at home.....
Dr said stent could come out in 2 weeks YAH, his office called in the afternoon to say earliest apt would be 7 May = 4 weeks with stent in. Not happy Jan, but at least should be out before Hawaii trip.
Feel like s***t, just want to curl up in bed with a hot water bottle. 2nd lot of panadol just taken, & trying to keep up with the 2 litres of water recommended to keep flushing kidney. Hope this gets better....

It will, you are still in the early stages of healing but bit by bit you will feel better each day.

Went to see my GP today as wanted to get copies of various tests and talk about the reaction I had to Crestor. She has marked my file as allergic to Crestor, but feels it might have been a coincidence. So now I am getting blood tests and bone scans for polymyalgia rheumatica. She also doesn’t want to wait until June for the 7 day Holter monitor but wants me to get a 1 day one. Sigh :(

On the good front my cholesterol was 4.7 (total), even though I only took Crestor for 9 days and the test was nearly 4 weeks after I stopped. Be interesting to see the next one.

Suppose it's a case of the good news and bad news. :):(
Most of my close relatives, including both parents, seem to have suffered from Polymyalgia rheumatica at different times and made good recoveries.

yes it doesn’t seem that bad if you do have it - not a life long thing. I had already hit on it a few weeks ago as part of my research, but it didn’t feel quite right. I also feel I am improving a bit each week - way better than 3 weeks ago.

By the time I finally get through all these tests at least I will know exactly what is going on with my body :) :). And to think this was all started because I was getting a bit of double vision and my optician thought an MRI would be useful - talk about opening a can of worms. :) :)

I must say I've found the whole travel insurance thing very odd. All the documentation says costs need to be pre-approved etc. When I rang them before deciding to goto hospital, they said nope just go on in (to any facility) and then submit a claim later. Umm, OK. Completely contradicts what the policy document says.

I found it especially interesting they couldn't even suggest where to go. I've since found a hidden site where you can search for hospitals, doctors, etc. on a per country basis and fortunately the hospital I'm at is on that list - so that should make it easier hopefully.

I've since found a hidden site

Why is it hidden ?
Do you have the password?
Can you share it with all us other deserving supplicants who may be in the same unfortunate situation one day ?

There's no obvious link to it, I somehow stumbled across it.

AMEX Portal - not sure if it would be relevant for AU AMEX card holders though.
