Been feeling cough for a few years, put it down to getter older. Had a sore lower right jaw, but I grind and clench my teeth, so expected occasional muscle soreness/stiffness. Also been having very occasional ear aches. I have always had fairly insensitive teeth, I mightn't like how they look, but I do want to keep them!
I have 6 monthly dental checkups and cleans, teeth are in very good condition, except for my grinding. The boss says she hasn't noticed me grinding in my sleep since I retired, which, of course is good.
Friday, week before last, I was feeling really cough, more so than usual, also had a bit of cold/flu type thing so didn't think too much about it. By Tuesday I couldn't decide on calling the dentist, or the doctor. Settled for the dentist and fortunately they saw me straight away.
Took some xrays, nothing untoward, but she thought there was an issue with my bottom last molar. Drilled throught the filling and low and behold the pulp was dead/dying and she could see a crack in the bottom of the tooth where the roots start. It wasn't appearing in xrays. She said it looked like it had been like this for years, figures!
Been on antibiotics and the swelling/heat has disappeared and boy do I feel better, seems I've had a low level infection for quite some time, quite possibly this is why I have been feeling so bad, unmotivated and quite tired all the time. I have to go back next week for removal or root canal, although she said root canal treatment can be an issue with a cracked tooth that can't be fixed.
Things are on the mend, I certainly do feel much better, surprising how even what seems to be a small infection can have so much control over your body!
