General Medical issues thread

Lots of babies have their own "witching hour" that they cry.

Are there no other signs? Is she spitting up or stretching out like shes in pain? Does she bed share or is close, does she settle down once you hold her?

Its tough but also perfectly normal - thats why there are thousands of baby help books and forums.

Oh, have you tried one of those baby chairs that move/rock?

Once she decides she's had enough no amount of rocking or cuddling is enough. Starts around 9:00pm-10:00pm every night. Sometimes wife breast feeds her lying down in bed and daughter falls asleep sucking nipple. So funny to see her doing that. But that doesn't always work.

We have a baby cocoon to carry her around and she sleeps ok in that during the day but doesn't like it at night. Usually will only sleep on bed next to her mum.

Daughter is a lot smarter than us.

JohnK, I remember walking around and around looking up at the night sky and sing a peaceful rendition of, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' a thousand times - you both will have your own version of a lullaby.

If she is resolutely awake and not appearing to be suffering, there's no option but to take it placidly until passes. Also, when a baby gets to around 6 weeks or so they often have a bit of a growth spurt and want to feed more and so winge until they get it. If she demands, the milk flow will supply. :)

Have you heard/downloaded Samuel L Jackson reading "Go The **** To Sleep"?

Youtube should have it.

Could the sleeping issues my 6 week old daughter is having be affected further by constant changes in environments.

She couldn't sleep the night before and kept us up to around 4:00am and missed the alarm at 6:00am to get ready to go airport. Luckily wife woke up 7:00am and we quickly got ready. She just screams all night. Closes her eyes, falls asleep and wakes up screaming. After a few times of this she just keeps eyes open. Kept my wife up all night last night as well.

Hoping spending ~3 months in Sydney will settle her down.

That's called having a baby. Sometimes they don't sleep. For months!

LOL. She is still worth all the pain and suffering. Just wish I could trick her. Way too smart for me.

New dilemma. Nephew in hospital with acute bronchitis. His mum is sick. Brother in law sick. Now grandma and grandpa also sick and coughing badly.

So far wife and daughter ok but for how long?

Dr FM told me you are a geriatric at 65. I plan to make the most of the next 10 months before I slip into senility.....

Good idea!!
We will see what the boss decides.

We visited nephew on Saturday with daughter and nothing bad for us so far so not sure how long for symptoms to appear.

Before daughter was born nephew brought something home from day care and family sick for 5-6 weeks. Looked like 2 different viruses after fighting off first one. Severe cough. Wife no symptoms and then gave birth and grandma couldn't be with grand daughter for first 3 weeks.

Would wearing a mask help those not affected?

I hope it's not whooping cough. But if it is, and your wife has had the recommended vaccination during pregnancy, baby girl might be safe. Also, if she is six weeks old, it must be almost time for her first shots too, which should help? If they haven't, I'd recommend getting them both out of there.
