General Medical issues thread

Went to see the doctor to get a piece of skin cut off, it appears to be more than something just in the top layer so another piece of skin to be cut off.

This is not going to be fun.:(
That's not good at all. Hope all is ok.

Well BB in Perth I have a GP who can quickly get these skin tags off with a machine that time pretty much forgot. It works great so if you come to AFF #10 you could consider getting it done.

Neither do I!

I think those were old notes, it's still somethong they're looking out for, but next test isn't for 6 months!

Have a lovely bruise on my back now though!!

Hope it all goes well :)
I can translate if you want - normal, normal, normal :)

My cold is still hanging around. Much better but I haven't had one this badly in years. :(

I've just had my flu shot, so hopefully avoid that! Off to hockey now (2 games) to see how the ankle holds up finally. Gave it a run at training on Wednesday and it wasn't too bad but did have to limit myself on some maneuvers.

I had to read this twice before I remembered you are in the 'old country' so coming into winter. I thought it was a bit late for a flu shot if you were here. :)
Hope ankle holds up.

Remember, colds and flus are completely separate things that have been conflated over time by the public.

A cold is generally upper respiratory- therapy, runny nose, blocked ears and maybe a cough. There are more than 100 cold causing viruses including adeno- rhino- and many more.

Flu is caused by the influenza virus and has many fewer circulating strains. It is a whole body disease with bad lethargy, aches and pains, fevers. You may get some mild gastrointestinal symptoms too.

The flu shot only prevents influenza (to around ~70 effectiveness) and won't stop a cold at all. This is the most common reason people complain about the shot or think it is ineffective- they get a cold and think it hasn't worked.

After getting the flu last year, I wont ever dwardle in getting the shot again. Never felt so miserable (the pain in my ankles was out of this world). If it ever happens again I wasnt to spend the duration out cold.

Until u have the shot.... Get the flu.... Cause it don't cover the strain u catch...
Well that's what a number of my colleagues have repeated to me.

I don't think it's possible for the yearly flu shot to cover everything that's out there.

So I am glad I didn't waste money and have a flu shot 'cos this is a common cold I have :)
I can't recommend the flu shot highly enough. I used to get the flu at least 3 times a year and each time knocked about at least a week.

Flu shots since 1999 and I think I have had the flu 4-5 times in that time and nothing as severe as before. And costs me nothing as I am diabetic.

Never had the flu in my life that I'm aware of - the occasional cold, but nothing with aches and pains or what would require time off work or lying around feeling miserable.

Have been having the flu shot for the last two years at the insistence of my GP - but I do realise that it is sensible as one gets a... cough, cough... little older.

I've never had the flu either. MrP has and he was extremely ill. Passed out in the hallway. He now always has the flu shot. I've had it the last 2 years. I don't know why. My immune system is always in overdrive but not anymore.

I put mine down to clean living... :p.

I have avoided it so far, although conscious that I am teetering on being geriatric. The last time I had a cold or any sort of illness (apart from my stupid blood pressure), was in 2013, so .... (touch wood).

Please try to avoid the human meta-pneumonia virus it's horrible 100% coughing took me a whole month to get over it somewhat

Could the sleeping issues my 6 week old daughter is having be affected further by constant changes in environments.

She couldn't sleep the night before and kept us up to around 4:00am and missed the alarm at 6:00am to get ready to go airport. Luckily wife woke up 7:00am and we quickly got ready. She just screams all night. Closes her eyes, falls asleep and wakes up screaming. After a few times of this she just keeps eyes open. Kept my wife up all night last night as well.

Hoping spending ~3 months in Sydney will settle her down.

She is 6 weeks already? Wow! Babies seem to have their own pattern of sleeping or not, some at night, some during the day, some are fretful at different times. A friend's granddaughter would scream at about 4 - 5 pm every day for weeks on end but seems to have grown past that now and is a happy smiling cherub almost 6 months old. Being settled with your parents in Sydney and having a grandparent to help your wife with her might be just the thing daughter needs.
