General Medical issues thread

At what point do you give in and just seek medical assistance? No excess to pay, so that's not really a consideration.

Day 4 of whatever it is I have / caught, maybe food poisoning. Last night and this morning gave positive signs of encouragement.. so started to head out to do a day trip to Blagaj, but nope, just before I got on the bus it was another close call rush back to my apartment!
Maybe you have a gastro infection, something like giardia, and which means flagyl treatment, an antibiotic? which is very effective. There are quite distinctive patterns to it. MrP got it in our Middle East Trip. One dosage and all gone. But there are many others you can get as well.

Had a friend who got the bowel prep prior to a colonoscopy. He lives in Avalon (insular peninsula northern beaches Sydney) and the procedure was going to be done in Dee Why.

As he could not drive home, he opted to take the 199 bus from Avalon to Dee Why. Usually takes 1hr or so. A car would have taken less than 30min

Well he had to get off mid trip.....💩

If you are doing all the standard traveller self-medication stuff, to no effect, I'd go now ( if you'll forgive the expression).
Buscopan and Lopramide, so yes, probably time to look for something more than OTC can provide.

The fear is real!

There is a view, that in mild cases, then letting it rip is best because it flushes out the whatever rather than slowing it down and keeping it in.
Indeed, although in the past I've been told after 3 days to then start using lopramide (which is what I've done) as it should have passed through by then. When I got back from Madagascar (after having gotten food poisoning on day 2 - yes... I'm perhaps a little too adventurous with my food, even taking precautions!) it came back with a vengeance and I had nearly 2 weeks of 'effects'. Letting it work through didn't help in that instance...

My rule of thumb is to let it rip if:
Not dehydrated and able to keep up the fluid intake
No blood in stools
No persistent abdominal pain
1 number an issue, but have been using rehydration sachets. I wish I had some Smecta though, that stuff is awesome!
Define persistent .... comes and goes in waves?

That does not go away after letting it rip.

The problem with gastrostop/loperamide etc is that diarrhoea may actually be an overflow diarrhoea meaning that there is an underlying blockage - you can be constipated/obstructed and have diarrhoea like symptoms.

It's one time that we wish we had the Japanese fancy toilets with all the buttons
Funnily enough I was thinking back to when I worked in India and how good it was that every toilet always had a hose attached next to the toilet..... it's not just there for show! Funnily enough, in India I've never really been hit too bad and have spent quite a bit of time there.

Anyway, I think I'm feeling OK'ish today........ going to see how a day trip goes. But then 2 days ago was the same, so we'll see.

It's that wave type event that led MrP checking out for giardia. We were just so pleased that neither of us had this issue when in an Airbnb in Athens where toilet paper was not allowed down into the toilet. 🤢. We both experienced issues over a number of days, thankfully not on the 12 hour excursion days 😳but at very convenient (to usual flushing facilities) times.

So not just an overnight for the boss as we first thought! Up to 6 nights!

Revision of fibial laser left knee replacement. (90/60)

Medial collateral ligament reconstruction.

So glad we have private health insurance…….
I was going to ask how she got on with the scan. Does not sound something to look forward to. Give her my love (sounds naff but you know what I mean).

Half day mission successful
