General Medical issues thread

Yes I can imagine... I should probably call if it happens again with that intensity.
Mention this to your GP at next visit, you may have other risk factors.

And if it happens again, please take yourself/ambo to ED. They will give you a "pink lady" and do ECG etc.
(my sister lost her husband at 46 - he thought it was indigestion....)

Suggest you visit GP and get cardiologist referral sooner than later - but in interim if it comes back ED

Haven't had my eye's checked in a while. I have had alot going on past few years so let it slide, turns out last time was 2017! Anyway they ask if I also wanted the hearing test. The test is quite basic and was over in 3 minutes. "Your hearing is normal MrProzac". "Oh, MrsProzac would be interested to know that, can you email me the results?"

I'm just wanting to thank all the lovely people I've "met" in this thread who have been so informative, kind and supportive as I've navigated my health issues this year. I really appreciate you all interacting so nicely with a person who is essentially a stranger to you. It gave me such a boost to hear the stories and experiences of other people in a similar position, and I also want to thank the kind members of the medical profession who did not mind offering their opinion.

I am feeling much better now, although I still tire surprisingly easily. My doc said to expect that as many people apparently feel more tired after chemo than in the before times, and it might take 6-12 months from the chemo to feel normal again. I am hoping that I am one of the people who gets the 5-7 year remission before having to do this process all over again. Result has been good, but I would not recommend the process at all 😂

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. I hope that everyone enjoys the best health possible in their own circumstances, and that everyone gets to feel some love and peace over this time of the year.

I hope you are feeling a lot better now @JohnK.
Much better thank you.

Interesting dilemma I am faced.

GP will not prescribe Alprazolam so the only way to get it would be psychiatrist. I'm not sure if psychlogist can prescribe. Apart from ridiculous cost to see psychiatrist I do not want to see psychiatrist. I don't need psychiatrist. But I need Alprazolam for anxiety. Not often but I do need it. I need it before a flight is the most important one.

So left with no real choice but to get it on black market in Thailand. Best I can do is 800 baht for 10 tablets or ~AUD35 which I think is quite expensive.

Psychologists aren't able to prescribe medications.

Ok and I'm not seeing a psychiatrist so that solves that dilemma. Buy alprazolam in Pattaya.

On another note my left lower leg is getting worse. No clots. No issues there that we can see. What started off a few months ago with slight pain every few days, to slight pain every day, to slight pain multiple times a day, to intense pain for a few minutes to constant intense pain. It's now almost unbearable.

Doctor wanted MRI but I'm not sure what that's likely to show anyway so I knocked MRI on the head due to cost. I'm almost certain this is nerve pain. The CT scan of lower back showed severe degenerative changes.

Getting old is not fun at all.

As a general rule buying benzodiazepines ie Xanax (and taking them) unsupervised in an unregulated market (or any market) would not be recommended. OTC drugs especially marketed as psychoactive in these places can land you in a whole world of pain. Should discuss plans w your GP

My older friend had to come off Ozempic because it affected his vision. We are unsure if that contributed to his recent fall. He has many scripts for medications so I was thinking he should see a consultant pharmacist to ensure the medications don’t counter each other.

You keep complaining about pain and illness and other stuff yet constantly refuse to see doctors, or take their advice when you do. Do you think there might be a connection there? I do.

Discuss what with GP?

That I need to have 1/2 to a full Xanax before each flight? That I need Xanax when I wake up in middle of night with anywhere from mild to severe anxiety where I'm hyperventilating? Anxiety causes more undue stress.

Firstly let's forget any stupid courses where they think they can cure any of these chronic conditions such as claustrophobia and anxiety. I'll be 60 in a few months. I've suffered most my life quietly. I'll continue to suffer with the help of medication.

GP says I should see psychiatrist if I need Xanax. NO. NO. NO. Psychiatrist cannot help and I'll be throwing money away that Medicare does not cover.

@Quickstatus you know that Xanax is no longer available. They now sell Alprax 1 in lots of 10 x 1mg tablets of Alprazolam. The ones they sell here in Pattaya are exactly the same. Not copies. Exactly the same. Only problem is on PBS they are $5 for 10 if I'm not mistaken but here they are THB800. I'll see if anyone can give me a discount.

P.S. I'm in total control of my use of Alprazolam. I only take when needed. I had .66mg on Saturday night and 1mg on Monday morning for the 2 flights. I had .5mg a few weeks earlier when I woke up in middle of night stressed and the time before that was for the return flights to Sydney in October.

We can't just assume that every person that needs Alprazolam is an addict. This is what happens why codeine was made prescription only. This is what happens when you tarnish everyone with same brush.

I will only make three points in general.
1- Alprazolam (Xanax) has restricted use in Australia (only in certain circumstances and by psychiatrist unless extenuating circustances). This is due to the high risk of toxicity, central nervous system depression affecting breathing and lack of longterm effectiveness of anxiety (where other drugs are better). Its highly potent and short acting and hence was abused for that reason and a causative factor in many deaths due to this. I am not saying everyone prescribed it is an addict. Part of the above was recommended out of coroners reports

2. You describe symptoms which need to be assessed, could be due to a range of factors and hence treatment targeted accordingly.

3. Re black market alprazolam - see my initial post.
All of the doctors on this forum have likely seen effects of over the counter, black market drugs. It ranges from no benefit to renal failure to death
