General Medical issues thread

Our vet has Tramadol compounded into a cream that you can apply to your cat's ears for pain relief. It seems very effective, and although Barry does not like the application process, he's kind of funny when it's kicked in, because he spaces out completely. ;)

Miss FM was given endone for her first knee operation and was just about addicted to it in a week! She was 16 at the time. Her next 2 operations she came home with packets of the stuff but refused to take any....

I've managed to avoid taking the oxycodone both for this surgery and my previous one. As much as I enjoy being free of pain, I'm too wary of the risks.

Got my Medicare claim statement in today; they did a very good job of paying out less than they were meant to by combining all items into one and producing a reduced schedule fee. Fortunately the agent on the phone agreed with me that it had been done incorectly and has put it in for a review.

(and yes, observant folks will have noticed that on top of that my sister died, but thankfully I heard well after I'd got home and had a decent lunch, and since my bowel was already empty I didn't have to suffer its usual response to stress, so I guess that's something. But not a good day for me and I'm glad MrSuze was home with me at the time.)
Sorry to hear that - my condolences.

God I hate back pain. It really impacts your independence (living alone and all). Work has been very understanding.

This week massage has released the spasmed muscles, chiro realigned my twisted hip and now physio treating the remaining issue, which he assesses as a disc bulge.

48 hours until I have to fly...Valium and Voltaren remain my friends.

Went to my usual (large) pharmac_ to have a script filled for some Caduet, to be informed that their supplier was suffering from a long term shortage.

However pharmacist had an easy fix - visit doc to get 2 scripts - one for lipitor and the other for amlodipine.

My doc doesn't bulk bill and I'd havt to pay for 2 scripts instead of just 1. Not happy.

This should make a few people happy.

Haven't slept yet. Severe case of dry mouth from oral thrush caused by amoxycillin. Was choking trying to get saliva. Panicking. Was going to dial 000 a few times. Sipped some water. Made it worse. Lolly didn't help. Panadeine Forte not working. Xanax not helping. Tried some Nilstat which helped a little then Stepsils in mouth helped some more. Pacing up and down trying to stay sane.

Now feel better and medicine starting to kick in now some 2 hours later but still distressed. It's like my body had shut down. I was very scared. This hasn't happened for a long time. Used to take Fungilin whenever on antibiotics. Think will need to do same again. I don't want to go through this again. :(

I have also been prescribed Caduet but Pharmacist supplies Cadivast which apparently is the same thing

Horrible reaction JohnK. Don't think anyone would be happy to hear of that. Hope you are feeling better and less distressed.

Bureaucracy once again justifying it's existence.Too many already involved causing inefficiency so let's add a few more.
Working in QLD and for a time a consultant to the complaints division I always felt the QLD bureaucracy was the worst.Since working in every state except Victoria I have reluctantly concluded that unfortunately it is the best.Country Health SA takes out the wooden spoon.

Do you have Sjogren's JohnK? You mentioned earlier you had auto immune illnesses.
Thrush is awful if that's what it was. Probiotics are good with antibiotics. Cultured yoghurt. Etc.
I don't think anyone here would be happy to hear this? I don't understand.

Thanks. Still the same this morning. Managed to sleep ~5 hours and miss alarm. This should be getting better by now? Will try to see the GP later.

Geez sound like you need a new body. What's amoxil for?

Sounds horrible JohnK. And anyone who is happy about it is horrible as well. Take it easy and get well soon.

I haven't been diagnosed with Sjogren's. Oral thrush used to occur regularly when I took antibiotics but hasn't occurred for at least 3-4 years. Not a nice feeling. Mind/mouth/tongue think they need saliva and try to draw saliva from throat. Back of the tongue in extreme pain. Each time that happens there's a sharp pain in the head. Powerful headache. I'm usually quite good picking that up and thought I'd wait until seeing doctor yesterday afternoon but yesterday morning was not good and found Nilstat in laptop bag. Seemed to help until last night/this morning when it got worse.

Going back to GP now to get either Fungilin lozenges or Fluconazole.

Broken tooth has caused infection in the tonsils/pharynx. I am guessing it was the broken tooth. It could have just as easily been the ice in Thailand again last week.

New body would be nice please. Too much wear and tear on the current one mostly self inflicted.

Did you manage to get your Caduet without more doctors' visits RogerK? Hope so.

I don't think that anyone on this thread would be happy on hearing of your latest medical trial JohnK. People that post on here are kind, compassionate, caring, supportive and those that can offer useful advice.

I'm sorry to hear of this latest pain episode you are having. Get well soon John.

Yes, from looking at the PBS it is another brand name. Will check with my pharmac_ but they are pretty savvy at providing generics/alternative named drugs.

Most GP would be quite happy to rewrite a script without further charge or consultation for an available brand. Was the "brand substitution not permitted" box on script ticked. A good pharmacist would call GP to suggest alternative and a faxed script will be ok
