General Medical issues thread

Well... having a CT scan tomorrow to find out if I have tumours on my pituitary gland making me feel the way I do or if I am just getting old before my time :p At least I have a doctor who wants to explore all eventualities instead of just treating the symptoms. At least some of the test results shows that there is a reason for me being the way I have been lately... my poor husband has not had a few easy weeks... or months (years) :D
Hoping for the best... dont have time for this now, I am planning a holiday :D
Hope all goes well RA and they can find a cause, though not something serious if at all possible. Something that can easily treated.

Thanks for the kind words, no ambulance as I didn't really think I had done any major damage, besides I had to finish what I was doing. It was a couple hours later that I realised something really wasn't quite right!

ER was good, not many people, only an hours wait, when we left the waiting room was chockers, glad I didn't leave it any longer. Also, it's my left wrist, which is good, as I'm very right handed.

We have a few trips coming up in the next 6 months, the first in 2 weeks, if I do end up in a cast for 6 weeks, is it likely to have any effect on my flying?

I was thinking along the lines of extra security checks and wand waving? Anyone on here flown with an arm cast recently?

Oh no, Hope that the scan goes well and doesn't show more problems. Thinking of you.

New cardiologist and new medication ....took a month for my system to adjust. Feeling a lot better now than at the changeover date.

Typical drug company...small tablet $118 a month and double size tablet $118 a month. I invested in a pill cutter to save $59 a month and get the larger tablet. The good news is the drug works with less side effects.

LTO we have those famous 3M titanium bladed scissors in all our work offices and our home. Medication needs a bit of an accurate slicer so a pill cutter is better. Those scissors from 3M are just so brilliant for old credit cards.
We are pretty much packed for a run to Los Angeles and I always take an extra week of medication. If I were to start running out which happened once I used a pill cutter to temporarily lower the dose to extend what I had left by a couple of days. No harm done but made sure it didn't happen again.

Just had some skin frozen where there was a build up of Seb K (non-medical term). It does hurt a bit and looks atrocious. Still it should be good in a few weeks.
Seb K is the medical term too - let's be honest, 99.9% of doctors can't spell seborrheic keratosis!

Then the relief when they check out of hospital and can go home for some R&R. Surgery (cholecystectomy) appears to have been successful but tell anybody that they can't lift anything for 2 weeks and can't drive (they're on Endone for pain relief). I doubt they'll be a good patient at home :o

Alas, no gallstone to bring home - when asked, the surgeon advised for OH&S reasons, they are sent to (medical) waste disposal.
Yeah they are sent to pathology. But you can always ask for it back! (please don't though, it's a massive pain in the butt!). We give back placentas all the time, gallstones are the second most requested item.

My onco gave me a week off the drugs so have felt quite good for the last 4 days - taste has returned a bit and over the week have managed to accumulate 3 kg. Even had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner.

But back on the treadmill now at half strength for a week and then full dose until the next scan in a month's time.

My family patient is back seeing the Specialist (Surgeon) 9 days after the operation. The wounds are looking very healthy (no swelling, redness and only oozing from the site next to navel which is from where they obviously extracted the gall bladder) but pain management is still an issue. Was on endone for 3 days after arrival home (the patient advised that was really good at blocking the pain), but only taking Paracetamol now. Think they should have stepped down to something a little stronger and have asked them to advise Specialist of ongoing pain.

On the positive, able to drive today (having been off endone for more than 72 hours) but still can't lift anything heavier than a cuppa or stretch to do anything.

Good that the patient could tolerate Endone well. Daughter had all sorts of bad side affects and stopped after a couple of doses. Glad to hear that they are on the road to recovery, even though there is still pain. Hope it continues smoothly.

Ms FM was given Endone for her first knee operation - she was well on her way to being addicted after a week on it. Her next two operations she refused to touch it. There is clearly a need for it, but it is handed out far too liberally.

What do you do for constant chronic pain such as tendonitis and bursitis?

Occasionally 2 Panadeine Forte make me feel numb for 3h55m. It's a huge relief. There are so many joints/muscles aching. Try not to take it too often but there is no cure.

Endone could well end up being the solution.

Endone or indeed any other opiod medications are not a solution for chronic (non-cancer) pain.

Well, some results came back ok, but not conclusive :p Doc is not entirely happy and has referred me for an MRI that will take place next week... Thank God for the Australian health system. Not only am I getting the investigations needed, I am getting them within a great time frame as well.
