Getting a flight to the US at Very Short Notice

My application states that they don’t send confirmation of the application results

I wasn't taking too much notice of the procedure, but I finished my application, which from memory said it was completed and was being processed. A short time later, I received an email advising me to refer back to the original submission, which then showed as 'Authorisation Approved'. If you haven't received any notifciation, as mrsterryn suggests, just re-open your submission and check whether the status has changed.

As mine went thru OK, not sure what else I can suggest to help your cause. There should be many others who have been thru the process and may know from their experiences what your next step should be.

Finally got the approval overnight. What used to take a matter of minutes now takes days, Some of us may recall filling the application online at the airport just prior to going through checkin and it being approved within minutes.
Another thing we will put down to covid

No, they actually changed the approval process prior to covid, it was no longer instant approvals from late 2018.

I've done 2-3 since and my approvals have taken between 1-6 hours usually. I think a lot would depend on time of day and year you are submitting it. I've got a lengthy (and squeaky clean) US travel record so don't imagine there's anything that's making mine take longer to approve.

Not necessarily, I got mine in under 60mins 3 weeks ago

You'd want business for flying SIN-JFK! That's almost as long as it would be from MEL-JFK direct!

It was the only flight that she could get for both the price and the available dates that she wanted to travel. She's been searching for flights for nearly a week now and this was the best that she could do.

Maybe others can do better. Dunno.

Nah all good, I would do that too for half the price of Qantas.

Hell no - that is why she picked business. As I type she's passing north of Japan. The route takes her over northern Asia I think and across Europe and down into NY. It's a 17hr flight and she has around 13 hrs to go. A Stilnox and a lie-flat bed is a godsend.
I think that the QF PER-LHR flights take a similar route. Certainly about the same time. I so pity those poor baskets in cattle class having to endure that.
