I don't think you can buy the load cards with wish cards is what albyd is saying

You can buy the prepaid $100 only1 visa gift cards with wishcards ($5.95 fee)

If they came with amounts of $120 or above it would be so perfect.

OK fair enough

This is what my coughpie maths gets me

$105.95 at 5% off is 100.65

You get an extra amex Mr using Plat edge. Costing you 65c per 100 or 0.65% if comparing with explorer

Or s lot more extra points if you can't use amex /PayPal.

So if the place only accepts visa and you get 0.5 to 1 pt per dollar. You get up to 2.5 pls extra for 0.65%

How is my maths

Hi all.

I am going to prepay mine and the wife's health cover premiums for the next 12 months because I am somewhat disgusted by the premium increase. Total value for both of us is around $3500. What are my best options for VISA/MC payment cards bought with an Amex Edge to score the 3ppd as opposed to the 0.5ppd I would get if paid direct?

TIA.

I think you've missed your opportunity. Your best options were with the now expired VISA ONLY deal or the targeted Coles Mastercard offers that have already occurred earlier this year.

Otherwise, I'd sit back and hope for something similar to occur before you are due to make your payment as any card you buy now will have significant fees attached to it which will likely outweigh any benefit.

It may be a harsh lesson to learn - but I'd always recommend keeping a 3 month stock of these cards on hand to sustain you between deals. I kept enough to pay my familys heath insurance for just this reason.

I'd disagree. Buying the only1 cards from woolies will cost you $100.65 with wish cards earning 3pt / $(bought with edge). So effectively you are paying 65cents for 100 or 200 extra pts (depending what card you were going to pay with). Depending on your health fund i am not sure if all will let you do $100 payments online.

Thanks for the tip. According the only1 web site the $200 cards have an activation fee of $7.95 so $207.95 total which, when purchased with 5% off WISH GC, comes to $197.55 so I'm up $2.45 :). I can get the 3ppd buying the WISH eGCs with my Edge and then buy the $200 only1 cards.

I just need to speak to the health funds about paying in chunks online.

I've never seen $200 cards available for purchase at Woolworths.

$50 and $100 only.

So your plan is unlikely to work.

This strategy is fine if you are happy to loose $.65 in every dollar.

I don't consider it viable for myself. There are too many more generous ways around this problem - but they do require you to plan and be organised. Paying .65 cents for 100 or even 200 points isn't a good deal in my view. Especially when you could be getting so much more.

No problems for me with CBHS.

And, need to pay Health Ins before cob 31 March to lock in this year's price to beat the 01 April rise. I just was allowed to pay for my daughter's for 9 months so now she will always be due just before the price rise.

Was going to post the same thing.

So if your health fund accepts visa and Mc only no amex and no PayPal. You have to use 0.5 to 0.7 points per dollar on average.

If you can use PayPal. Then it's 2 ppd
So for 65c you get an extra 100 pts which is $65 per 10k points which it seems many people are willing to pay.

I've only seen $200 cards at office works. If they were available at Woolworthsi would be so all over them

OK, that's shame. The $100 option still works for me since the 65c penalty is still far outweighed by the premium increases and the extra MR points earned.

When Woolies had the only1 promo I was only able to purchase 30*$100 in the end. That isn't a real long term solution as those promos may not come when you need it.
Pay 65cents for either 100pts or 200pts makes it effectively 0.6cents per pt or 0.3cents per pt.
Gift card redemptions are 0.5cents per pt so as long as you are redeeming anything other than giftcards, you'd still be making a profit. While not as good as getting these cards on promo, it is still better than nothing and you can purchase them at anytime you want(as long as they have stock).

I too was going to say 65c for 100 points isnt worth it, but id thought id cop some flack for saying it,

and yes thta woolworths promo recently for visa1 cards were great,

I went to 15 stores and got about 50 and was pretty happy , but on the final night of the promo, bang, two of the stores had hundreds of them, due to time and credid card limits I only got another 50, I would have got another 100 more if I could have

but In your case it looks like you need to make the payment pretty soon, so the best option would be the 65c option

How did you buy another 50 cards at the end of the promo when it was capped at 10 ?

I hear what you are all saying but I can:

  1. Prepay using my MC and earn 0.66 QF ppd (2299) and save $291 on the health premiums; or
  2. Buy $3500 worth of 5% discounted WISH eGCs, earning 9975 MR, then buy the only1 cards with a penalty of $22.75 (65c*35) and still save $268 on my health premiums.

By my Maths, I am paying 0.3c per extra point with option 2.

Make sense?

Hence why I stated in message #2586:

'It may be a harsh lesson to learn - but I'd always recommend keeping a 3 month stock of these cards on hand to sustain you between deals. I kept enough to pay my familys heath insurance for just this reason.'

There is no reason to loose .65 cents in every $100 except that you weren't organised enough.

No limit was enforced until mid way through the promo period for the VISA ONLY card. Many people, including myself, purchased hundreds of VISA ONLY cards.

By all means keep going with your strategy of loosing money purchasing the VISA ONLY cards now. The point which I thought I had made clear is that there was no need to do this and not a strategy which anyone needs to undertake.

I hear you but unless you can tell me that there is another only1 offer coming tomorrow, I don't have the luxury of time since health premiums need to prepaid by 31st March.

I appreciate your advice is sound in general, but not overly useful in this particular instance. I can live with the 65c loss per $100 since my overall saving is still significant and worth it given the timescales involved and the lack of a better offer.

Appreciate that offers give more value but if you can't make 200 MR points worth >65c when redeeming, you're doing it wrong .
In addition, many people don't have the credit limits or spare cash to seriously stockpile
