Gift Cards at Supermarkets

i made a payment to my macquarie credit card which had a $2 OTC fee

Do you split the amount you are paying on the same bill to the value of multiple gift cards and get charged just one OTC fee?

All my bills were council rates. Etc

At no time did a surcharge come up on the screen.

I called up one council and asked if my payments had come through in full and they said yes so I'm assuming there is no feee.

I could be wrong. I hope not
I paid $88 payments.

Maybe payments to credit cards have athe fee such as amex

No one actually confirmed whether it was $3 per account or card.

Because if my reasoningi is correct. If one of those promos came around. And you could use these gift cards to pay off your credit card. You would essentially buy and credit over and over again and you would get unlimited points.... That would be ridiculously awesome

can anyone confirm that buying wish e-gift cards through entertainment book at 5% off nets you 3MR points per $ on a plat edge?

Yes, 3PPD on Platinum Edge using Cashrewards or Entertainment Book to buy WISH e-gift cards.

I do not have plat edge yet, but anyone can confirm if buying from First Choice Liquor is it 3PPD?

No, the idea is you buy Coles group & Myer gift cards @ Coles, then use them at First Choice (and office works, and coles express, etc, etc, etc,)

My purchases instore at First Choice Liquor on my Platinum Edge only gave me 1PPD.

It does.

You could also purchase via cashrewards for the same discount.

I think you'll find it's per transaction. I think a few people in this thread have now said that most Post Offices now will not allow you to use multiple cards in one transaction (ie split payment) so if there's a $X fee, you will pay $X per card, likely making it not worth it.

Yes, circular spending is the goal, but if you're paying $3 per transaction you are paying a hefty amount for your MR points.

That's interesting.
What about self service terminals and paying your amex bills?

Would it be $3 per bill?

I'm really trying to try it. But I've only had one statement and it was electronic. So I've changed to paper and waiting for it

i'm going to do it also. an $88 card (bought at 5% discount) only cost $83.60. add the $3 fee per payment that's still only $86.60 to pay $88 off your bill. Do that 100 times and you've earned 25,080 MR points and made $140 profit.

Don't forget to factor in time cost of going to post office, opportunity cost of your money if you have to pay your CC off early, etc.

RE Amex at Post Office

You can pay your Card Account in person with cash or a cheque at Australia Visit to set up Post Offices.
Cash payments are limited to no greater than your current account statement.
You must present your card and current account statement when paying your Card Account.
A $3 processing fee will apply to payments made in person.

Not to mention the fact that you could have spent the $88 card elsewhere and realised more profit. And also that the discounted $88 cards are a finite resource.

It is also worth noting that loud discussion of circular-spending reduces the time-window of opportunity considerably

Good work guys!

Last year I went to quay restaurant and paid with 10x$50 good food gift cards. Hehehe

HAA! how did they manage to process it? swiping multiple times at the table? that would have been amusing

Bill came.... Gave them all the gift cards, it went away... Came back with receipt.

15mins later... Receipts came back. :)

yes spot on!
for me its a cashflow consideration too, if I could get my hands on 1000 cards, I wouldnt be able to afford it all so I would do the paying off amex option,

"It is also worth noting that loud discussion of circular-spending reduces the time-window of opportunity considerably"

not too sure what that means ....
