What does this mean? I buy a $100 card and pay $105 to Woolies?

Pretty much, except they come in $75 and $150 denominations, so they end up being $78.75 ($75 + $3.75) and $157.50 ($150 + $7.50) respectively.

Hi guys,

Any tips of spending the $1000 required for the velocity platinum card. Don't have any bills to pay! Shop at Coles mainly. Any way of maximising points with this card for this initial 1000?

Pre pay gym, health insurance, etc. whoops, not quite the correct thread.

If you don't have access to buying gift cards at a discount already then consider purchasing one of the coupon books (can't think of the correct name) so you get the 5% purchase discount. Then rather than straight Coles cards I'd buy a good swag of Coles Myer cards as that give you Coles, Coles Express, Myer, Officeworks, liquorland etc - much more useful.

That then opens up buying around 20 other company gift cards in Coles such as Bunnings, Harvey Norman, Good Guys, JB Hifi, Bing Lee, numerous ladies clothes companies etc.

Last week I bought a JB Hifi $100 from Coles but didn't swipe the Fly Buys as historically no points appear to be given to you. Looking at the receipt afterwards it said, "If you'd used a Fly Buys card you would have earned Fly Buys points." Not sure if it is just a generic response to non-use but hope it signals a change.

Regarding Fly Buys, there might be a difference between Coles gift cards vs other gift cards?

I thought the entertainment book doesnt has the deal with coles???

You could be right, I can get all cards via a different route. wchiri will need to check it out.

Hopefully they can access them a different way without going the entertainment book (thanks for correcting the name) route.

Otherwise, same idea but instead buy Woolworth's gift cards and buy 3rd party gift cards through them (if WoW covered by Entertainment book. Due diligence time.) I know I've seen Myer cards and Bunnings in WoW stores (bought a Bunnings there three weeks back) but not sure about Coles Myer Group cards.

Bunnings and Coles are both owned by Wesfarmers, so Bunnings cards are only available at Coles. Woolworths sells Myer and David Jones gift cards, but not Coles Myer Group gift cards.

Hi guys,

If you want to continue shopping at Coles, the quickest way of meeting the spend requirement will be to buy Coles Group/Myer cards. For you it won't make a difference where you buy them as there are no relevant bonus categories and I'm not aware of any of the voucher sites offering discounts for Coles cards ( you may be able to tie it into a an Amex Connect offer such as the recent one at Liquorland).
More options open up if you switch to WW where you can get discounted giftcards (eg Entertainment Book)

Okay, so a few questions regarding the use of gift cards. I am about to undertake a major house renovation doing a lot of the work myself and trying to make my dollars go as far as possible. Looking at probably around 130k in material costs. I have Bunnings, Masters and Home Timber and Hardware nearby. I will be approaching them to see if they can offer me trade pricing (not sure what kind of discount this might be off their list pricings) or anything along those lines though I don't have an ABN.

Alternatively my questions/statements below, please correct me if I am wrong or you believe there is a better way to get a discount:

Woolworths Group
1. If I purchase Woolworths WISH cards (5% through Entertainment Book) I can then use these at Masters, correct?
2. Masters has intermittently also been running promotions with 15% Gift Cards back per $100 spend.
3. Thus if I can wrangle it and get my timing right spend $1000 actual cost is only $800. Though they do exclude 'trade quantities' but haven't seen a definition of that so might have to split the sales up.
4. Otherwise they also offer to beat a cheaper price by 10% so will do some investigating there.
5. Masters is struggling for business so am more than happy to cash in on any promotions they are running!

Wesfarmers Group
1. What are my options for getting a discount on Coles vouchers?
2. Could I then use these vouchers to buy Bunnings vouchers instore?
3. Any other ways to get discounts on Bunnings vouchers?

Cheers, TIL.
