Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Thanks. I keyed this into the SS.
I am astounded at the variety of retailers who have gift cards at supermarkets. We're up to 36 different retailers...

There is a common service provider ( Wright express ) behind most of the cards. Think they run giftvoucher.com as well.

Just occurred to me that this could be good for Diner's card holders as many of these companies don't accept Diner's but Woolies and Coles certainly do!!

I'm thinking of buying a new TV. Fortunately Coles seem to have *plenty* of stock of $100 JB HiFi gift cards ;)

I ordered about $2,000 worth in a round about way from Nat Snrs on 18th and then found out they can take weeks to arrive.

Is there a limit in the amount of gift cards one can purchase from Coles or woolworths? Eg jb hifi gift cards.

Because you could potentially get a 5% discount + some mcard or visa points which might be worth more

I don't know if you can buy gift cards for third parties using a Coles or WW Gift card at Coles or WW. Has anyone tried?

This morning, Jnr#1 decided to purchase her first iPad. Nothing on special that we could find, and she can't/won't wait 2 months to be inside the 60 day window for TRS (typical Gen Y), so I sent her off with instructions to go to WW to buy a Dick Smith gift card with her CC and then use the WW discount card along with the gift card when purchasing the iPad.

She's a smart kid, but she's still resenting the extra step to purchase, although she know's its for her greater good. She actually had a dream the other night that I told her that we were flying whY and woke up thinking it was real - she was scared.

Anyone know if Bunnings (or the Good Guys or Harvey Norman) stock other cards? want to use the Amex offer of points for something more useful than Bunnings gift cards.

Had a look on their site and they only mention Bunnings ones. That might still be of value depending. Where is the AMEX points offer? Couldn't find it under bonus partners

I went to Woolies today to take up the $10 seafood and then the double points offer on the second EDR offer.
I paid in 2 goes and used a 5% Woolies gift card thanks to RACWA. No one in the 2 lines I could see used gift cards so I walked out with a discount plus about 500 points.

Bunnings don't give discounts to retail shoppers but Masters Hardware take the Woolies gift cards so they are the place for Woolies loyalists to get their supplies ( if there is a store near you).
In Adelaide I think Mt Gambier is a bit of a stretch for Shintaro10x.

Just went back and read the fine print and the bonus points are excluding gift cards so I will wait to see if the Woolies software has been upgraded to stop us triple dipping the scheme.

Targeted offer for Amex plat edge or charge (edge I think) for $200 spend at housing suppliers. Don't really need 200 worth currently but $30-$60 in points for the taking.

You can resell gift cards at cardlimbo generally for a 12% loss so probably not worth effort unless you value it closer to 60.

Someone commented earlier that the Woolies gift cards are useless for this purpose, but I've just thought of a reason why they might actually be useful.

I'm in a situation where I might be short of the KF miles required for a reward booking. One option is to pay to top up my KF miles at a cost of $40 per 1,000 miles. Or, I could effectively pre-pay my grocery bills for 6 months by purchasing gift cards from Woolies. E.g. buy $15k worth of gift cards and get 45,000 KF miles. Assuming I spend $600 per week, which otherwise would sit in my offset account until required, I've worked out the interest cost of doing this to be less than $200. That compares pretty favorably to purchasing 45,000 miles for $1,800 from the airline!

Even if you spend a lot less than $600 per week on groceries, it still could work. E.g. with a spend of $300 per week it would take you almost a year to use all the gift cards, but the interest cost would still be less than $400.
