Gift Cards at Supermarkets

She did mention the specific number of cards. I believe she said 230. I don't think she was exaggerating the number of cards or the time it took her but she seemed relatively junior so she might be a bit slow. She said the customer had bought them with 5% off wish cards on an Amex to max the promotion. I was sitting there admiring this person's work until the TA said the customer had used the Amex points from the sale to pay off part of the cost of the cards. Oops. Should have put 'em to SPG, KF, or CX/AM I thought to myself.

RAM, I realised it wasn't you, as you mentioned you're a SYD person. I'm based in BNE. Also you wouldn't have made the amateur mistake of paying an Amex bill with Amex points. ;)

O U C H!

If only I could redirect more points to BA - that's where I've been getting the best value recently.

I have always Amex - SPG - AA . But unfortunately now three Amex have been shot down for too many GC purchases

How does that work? I didn't realize they cared. Thought otherwise works well for them as you can use your card in places/situations (eg high surcharge or non accordance) where you otherwise wouldn't. I assume the supermarkets merchant fees aren't as high as for other retailers but the bonus points were to try to ingrain Platinum Edge into our daily habits.

Anyone know where I might be able to get discounted Barbeques Galore gift cards? Or if they are available at Woolworths or Big W

Same with Mitre 10 gift cards?

Add one more; Spotlight anyone?

My Amex card got cancelled for buying too many gcs

I would be guessing that it was due to something else. Perhaps how the GCs were being used?

When particularly lucrative point bonii have been on offer in the past I have sometimes bought large amounts of GCs in short time periods. I have never had an issue with Amex itself though some supermarkets would cap what you could buy.

Barbeques Galore seem to be available at some BigW's.

Still hunting Mitre10 and Spotlight gift cards if anyone happens to spy them when they are out and about.

Yes, I found this difficult to believe too, with Shanye you only ever get 20% of the story.

Have you tried just now? This happened to my account a few times as well, but no longer.

Yeah I got him to buy me some 10% off Myer gift cards the other day and they were still charging 1.5%. Weird that Rewards Gateway seem to charge different CC surcharges to different people.

Reward Gateway are the supplier of my company rewards scheme and we used to get slugged a credit card surcharge of 1.5% which rendered most of the discounts pointless. However, staff compained enough that the surcharge got removed.
