Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Myer Gift Card T&Cs say it cannot be used to purchase gift cards (when i last checked). As Myer doesn't have auto-checkouts, I'm uncertain if you'll have success with this one, depending on operator compliance I guess.

The $50 Netflix card that comes with WWR5, as advertised in the Woolies catalogue, actually turned out to be WWR10, so I scooped up WWR30 for 3 Netflix vouchers which will keep my subscription paid for the next 12 months and I'll get 3pts/$ on my Plat Edge instead of the usual 1 when paying Netflix direct.

A possible Platinum Edge laundering opportunity coming up this 'specials week' at WW -

Not as flexible as the Coles gift MC but may be good for some as you effectively pay $95.95 for $100.00 of value (in addition to the MR points). If the $10 WWR rebates immediately, if you buy one at a time you can get the rebate immediately on the next card.

Does anybody know how you use these EFTPOS cards at say 1k at a time for bill payments, roll over to a prepaid MC/Visa etc?

I found these very hard to use. Can't use online as EFTPOS. I couldn't find a provider who would accept as part payment so always had to find items less than $100 and then would be left with a fiddly balance. Coles and WW wouldn't accept at all. Would be grateful to anyone who found a method

Can't use eftpos to pay anything online? that would really kill this deal for me..

What I found (with the Coles prepaid MCs) was that certain payments can be split a maximum number of times. For example in NSW you can split a rego payment 3 ways (unless of course the operator did not know there was a 3-way limit and get 4). Sometimes you are forced to speak to a person...

I think a quick read of the T&Cs of these cards is a high priority. I seriously miscalculated how quickly I'd burn through the C prepaid MCs - 2 months later my 6 month estimate is gone. So enjoyable getting full weight in AMEX VFFs for Govt payments and utility payments. Now I have added another multi inch pile of used ones awaiting a frustrating afternoon to see if I can build a 7 foot high plastic card house!

Are there many of these cards in existence in your local W?

Would be even better if could pay for them with a discounted W gc...

Someone on ozB said can't pay with discounted GC.

My question is does any or both Amex and bank issued card purchase of the Eftpos card count as a cash advance? Or anyone knows which Amex isn't a cash advance?

It will count as a WW purchase (certainly did at Coles when they had offer)

If only one could find some of these cards... Apparently these cards aren't even on sale in FNQ...

I am in the same boat. A massive underestimate on the number required. A nice pile of dead cards is all that is left.

I bought a few with discounted e-WISH this morning (at a self-serve)
Could buy multiple and receive $WW on each
No intervention required from staff

This sounds very interesting. Might be worth it with the discounted Wish cards.

My children play with my used discounted gift cards and gift cards I got for free. I think we have a 3 butter containers full of them. They love playing shopping and other role playing games. They also like the pretty designs on some of them.

Nice pile. I couldn't economically justify using them more than a few months out, as would be having to use cash that would otherwise be offsetting mortgage

When you do the numbers on a simple interest basis and assuming a mortgage at 4.2%pa, the holding cost is only $3.50/mth/$1000 of cards held. So the total cost of holding say $5000 of cards over a full two months is $35. If you spend them evenly over the two months, the cost drops to below $20.

In my case, the value of the points earn differential is far greater than the interest cost.

Big signs, but no cards...
Let's not share this too widely

When I check on Monday and yesterday Woolworths Macquarie Centre only had $50 cards which had the same $5.95 activation fee. The catalogue only shows a picture of the $100 card getting $10 $WW.
