Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Whilst hardly as exciting as the eftpos giftcards, for anyone that is interested Woolies has Skype Credit at half price this week. Might be of interest to some AFF'rs that use Skype to call home.

3 stores was never going to cut it.

I've visited over 25 stores and the most I've found at any one store was a total of 8 cards.

I suspect WOW staff have purchased many of the cards before they were ever presented for sale. One WOW staff member remarked to me that she had used her WOW discount to buy the cards earlier that day.

It also appears that many stores never received any cards.

I'm up to 35 cards now. Looks like I wont get to the 50 I was after.

Well, I just want to say that overall that was a very disappointingly executed promotion. No doubt the cards will start appearing now that the promo is over.

Since the promotion has ended I've seen many hundred of cards available...surprise surprise!

I wonder if they are new stock or the stores were told to hide them until the end of the promotion?

Are you guys able to pay off a credit card bill with the eftpos giftcard? If so, i wish i found more. Just a thought thats crossed my mind.

This is certainly possible if paying at a post office location.

Sounds like a good "monetisation" strategy for the GCs assuming they can be amalgamated into one payment attracting one Post office payment processing fee rather than one per card. Might otherwise get expensive.

Who wants to volunteer to take it to the ACCC?

And paying my NAB credit card at the Post Office attracts no fee.

Sounds like an interesting and low cost monetisation method.
Good to keep in mind for the next promotion. I'll make sure I'm geared up for it.

I agree taking it to the authorities is likely to do more harm than good. Was in my local WOW yesterday and had a casual look to see if mysteriously supply of the eftpos GCs had re-surfaced. Could see a few $50s but no $100s. I think just a matter of poorly run & supplied campaign rather than any malicious intent on WOW's part.
Makes sense given WOW's well publicized problems. Coles is running rings around them as shown by good supply availability for their Mother's Day campaign.
Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

I agree that it was most likely incompetence rather than negligence on the part of WW with the recent eftpos GC 'promotion'.

It did get me to visit a few WW stores in Perth that I have never been to previously (visited but did not buy anything).

i used the 2x $100 eftpos cards at the post office to pay for my macquarie hilton honors card and was charged a $2 fee per transaction (2x$2) as a payment over counter fee.
Luckily I didn't pay it all off otherwise i'd lose 2% on $5k.

Shame they didn't let you amalgamate payment.
What about the self processing machines? I've never used them. Will they allow you to split payment?

i used the self checkout machines, I tried the counter and she said they were told not to accept eftpos gift cards as bill payments.

I would submit a question in writing on the official Aust Post page asking whether that is correct as I suspect it is not. If you don't have any luck then try via the Aust Post company secretary.

I think it is a violation of their commercial eftpos agreement actually.

I would also suggest sending an email to Woolworths quoting the refusal by Aust Post as the T&Cs for the cards do not indicate any special restrictions on their use.
