Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Just used self check out, the staff authorised, then watched me like a hawk. I tried to scan my mobile phone which has a e gift card, and she stopped me.

What percent discount do you get when you buy the Coles e-giftcards?

I have been offered 4% via AGL rewards but given that I couldn't pay by Amex, I haven't followed it up as the benefits over Edge aren't huge. I understand there are some 5% available via employer schemes but I don't know if they take Amex

The one that I've got access to is 5%, but they charge 2% for VISA/Mastercard, so I prefer to just use the Platinum Edge at my local Coles and get the local champion bonus.

I always find it better to use the whole lot in one ago, so you don't have to keep track of fiddly little balances. Unless someone knows of a good method to combine small balances on the gift mc's?!!?

It is easy enough to keep track through the respective web sites. Just bookmark them under a title like "GCs" and easy to keep track - as long as you have a permanent marker pen that is!

Our approach is to get high value gcs (where possible), with the $100 Coles MC offer it is a little more painful but they disappeared way too fast from Mother's Day offer for the checking to cause concern (unfortunately).

Tour of 3 Coles that had them last time round - not one to be found on Tuesday or Wednesday or tonight - NOT HAPPY JAN...

Thanks, I didn't think there would be a way of "pooling" the $100 Coles MC, but that didn't stop me hoping. You're right about them walking off the shelves quickly!!!

Just a tip for those new to using the Coles MC giftcard online. If the provider levies a surcharge you need to account for this when setting the amount to pay
I.e if the surcharge is 0.42% you need to pay $99.58- otherwise your payment will be frozen-may take a few weeks for the card to be usable again

Thank for the tip .

Trying to buy Coles online card a few time now and gave up , got my partner additional card locked up by ANZ Fraud Detect , Keep saying payment failed when my card is completely fine .

Yes and yes :)

I have managed to get the Coles Prepaid Online Master Card with our ANZ Black Visa ( hope it will earn 0.75 points per $ like normal purchase ) . from here on how do i link this Coles Master Card to my Flybuy account to earn flybuy points when paying ATO with 0.42% fee .

Thanks

You can't.
I've found I can only buy 2 online MCs per day with my Citi Prestige rest get declined. Citi reckons all is fine with my account so assuming it's fraud prevention & call center doesn't realize it. Interested in others' experiences with this.
Going to do my shopping tonight hopefully Suburban Coles has a better supply than CBD stores.

First got block from ANZ Fraud but after called up and unblock i was able to bought 3 x $1000 online cards yesterday to pay ATO effectively at earn rate at 0.56c per QF point

I bought 10 x $100 MC at my local Coles this morning. This T&Cs said max 10 per transaction, so thought that was a good place to stop.
The (manned) register wouldn't let me buy more than 5 per transaction however, so I bought 5 at a time.

My Local Champion coles said the same.
Some confusion in the same store about maximum load on a CG&M card-one cashier said $500 another said $400

It wasn't the staff member - the system was popping up a message saying no more than 5 per transaction.

This is certainly possible if paying at a post office location.
Finally got around to testing this out yesterday
I'm on good terms with the postoffice manager, and they let me do it, had a talk about EFTPOS cards, and we agreed it was like 'cash' as it came out of savings or chq account...so the net effect is I got 5% off for paying my credit card bill, and 3MR/$...not too shabby :D

These $100 MC are getting rare now, Today went to 4 coles no stock ( Liverpool, wattle grove, chipping norton, riverwood ).
