Gift Voucher Booking nonsense

I booked the tickets last night but am still to receive the etickets....seems unusual. Also, when will I get the email wth the residual from the voucher?

Flights booked with a voucher can take weeks (or even months) to ticket. You wont get a residual until it does (and even then you may need to call to get the new PNR, mine never come through). If you want the fight to ticket sooner just give them a call and they will push it along.

I think I still had a credit voucher go missing from ages ago but the thought of calling up and going through the explanation process was more than I could face (only for around $40 or so).

My residual popped up in TV's account, but not mine which was a bit odd (the usual QF issue where all bookings seem to be addressed to the male, even if booked and paid for by the female ).

Yeah. Interesting.

Just rang QF premium...confirmed they are not ticketed as there was some internal error with the booking, and she will fix it :). I should also get an email with the residual. She also said they always have problems with the gift vouchers and suggested that next time I ring to use them!! They said they won't charge me a fee (not sure if this is for everyone or just Plats)..

very easy to add a T to the T&Cs "Gift voucher purchases not eligible for the DCS promotion".

No doubt easy to add to the T&Cs, but if added, probably very difficult to actually enforce - given the kludge that means GVs are just bookings, and once changes are made to bookings (which is what redeeming a GV does), then look the same as any other booking which had been changed.

Even looking back to "original" payment - it then would just appear as cash / credit card that paid for the "first booking" (the GV).

I would suggest that the entire GV approach would need to be redone before QF could actually eradicate some of the current "features".

Please, can the DSC back and forth go to one of the many DSC threads?

I agree the gripes with the gliches with the GV implementation are separate and wider ranging than just that particular thing. As noted many use them to actually gift (what a concept! :D ) or most specially to avoid the CC fees (I do this on domestic bookings almost all the time).

It's not unreasonable to repoet these issues. Go to the ACCC? That seems a bit far fetched but hey whatever helps I guess?

re "E" class.. I have not noticed E class as available on many trunk routes or popular routes. I wonder if Pushka's booking route actually had E class available at all which may or may not prove or disprove that particular theory. Let's say E class fares and inventory are on that particular route it may follow the "glitch" would then preclude (for some stupid reason) higher Y fares from being made available. Seems extreme though. I don't know without specifics and even then it would just be a guess.

The big issue more generally with QF bookings is that they are not transparent with the booking classes until post purchase which as we all agree I am sure is a bother on a number of levels from FF accural to specific fare conditions to keeping an eye on availability. I seriously wish QF would show the fare class when selecting fares to book like many other airlines do and are up front about (eg: NZ, UA, AA to name a few I am very familiar with). But that's OT to this thread (like DSC :) )

Very Happy to isolate DSC as that has nothing to do with the GV issue.

It occurred when I was booking a while ago with nothing to do with DSC. ..... the DSC is actually completely irrelevant......I think your inference is completely out of order. And probably could be posted in your thread about crossing the line.....You asked why people buy GV. That seemed to be your query suggesting the only reason why people buy GV is to do what you interpret as exploitation. ..... But that didn’t satisfy you so now you’ve just closed up and said it’s just wrong........... You really need to get past that.

OMG! Let's take a deep breath.

Please Pushka, understand that due to your opening post highlighting with the big "wink" that the GV was purchased during the DSC promo, I thought that was part of your peeve. It now appears that the thread moves to just the GV use itself. BTW I do not consider the use of GV purchases in promo periods "exploitation" - it is, IMHO, just a gaming of the system which is ok in my book - it is not fraudulent like some other scams :) But I still think it audacious :)

As for the central problem here regarding redemption/usage of GV's not allowing all options, I agree that is bad. But I do not think it is intentional by QF. Somewhere upthread someone asked if maybe the problem is a system one where the options will not include fares that cost less than the GV - this is not the case but it appears such glitches occurred in the past. And others appear to have made many GV bookings without your problem. So it does not appear to be an evil plot.

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I hadn't noticed this before:

Gift Vouchers issued on/after 31 March 2018 are valid for 3 years from date of issue, irrespective of the expiry date shown on the voucher.

Still haven't received my e tickets for the flights booked last week with the GCs. Rang the premium desk again and the lady explained that they are in a Q for manual ticketing....apparently the residual value is calculated manually as well!! She assured me that as it is Qf metal the flights won't get cancelled but it may take a while to ticket and could be up to T -24 hrs!! Ridiculous!!!!

I've had them ticket while I've been at the airport trying to check-in :)

About 6 weeks prior to travel. It was when I first learned about GV and ticketing issues!
That's terrible! My flights are in about 7 weeks' time. I won't be leaving it til checkin time to hassle them again if they don't ticket them!.

We had one that we discovered hadn't ticketed when we tried to OLCI.

And I've been at the airport to check-in and found that I didn't have a booking.

A few months earlier I called to make a change to an existing booking and they had not re-ticketed or charged for the change. Lucky I had many hours up my sleeve as it took over an hour to fix.
