Gift Voucher Booking nonsense

It can always be a bit interesting being put into the Far Queue for manual processing....

This issue of different fares for vouchers vs paid fares goes back years. First happened to me in 2012 when rebooking from a cancelled ticket, where all the fares in the voucher windows were about $500 dearer (this was SYD-LHR-SYD fares).

That is a VERY differen thing and actually is part of the T&C of a refund/residual credit voucher (as opposed to a gift voucher).

In the case you describe, the original fare class of ticket booked (and amount paid) and the T&C of that booking apply such that you MUST buy a higher fare class and pay the change fees etc applicable.

Hence, the higher priced flights is due to that restriction, probably not the issues being discussed here.

but I agree the glitch with vouchers and not offering up some fares has been around for a long time, probably since vouchers were implemented.

Not quite the case, as my tickets were cancelled on compassionate grounds, and when I rang about the higher but lower fares I was not seeing, the call centre sorted me out. Because my fares were ex-SYD, sand the cause of cancellation an event involving relatives domiciled in the UK, neither QF or the TI would provide a refund. But QF did say there would only be a change fee when we rescheduled provided the fare was equal to or greater than the original fare.

What i referred to earlier was the fare alone, not any change fee, and as I said there was an appropriate fare available which QF were happy to ticket with the credit voucher. And they did say it should have been available through the booking portal, which is why I mentioned it.

Seems like exceptional circumstances there and very glad QF came to the party and were so good in the situation (since they often get grief for not caring or being flexible)

:D

Still haven't received my e tickets for the flights booked last week with the GCs. Rang the premium desk again and the lady explained that they are in a Q for manual ticketing....apparently the residual value is calculated manually as well!! She assured me that as it is Qf metal the flights won't get cancelled but it may take a while to ticket and could be up to T -24 hrs!! Ridiculous!!!!

That's terrible! My flights are in about 7 weeks' time. I won't be leaving it til checkin time to hassle them again if they don't ticket them!.
I had to ring the premium desk about another matter today so asked what was happening with the tickets...he put me on hold for about 10 mins (did warn me 1st), then came back and said they are now in the urgent basket for manual ticketing, and the etickets will arrive within 48 hours - they came within 2 hours! Now the balance of the gift voucher was $9.98 but I was sent another voucher for only $4.99. No biggie but anyone know why??

Bumping this thread to report my first incident of the GV booking process displaying higher fares.

There's currently good deals for AU-NZ on limited dates so went to grab seats for Mrs 340's birthday. Main website booking engine quoted $499pp return ex-ADL, GV engine quoted $700 minimum. Called Premium Res and the very helpful agent snagged the cheaper fares and applied them to the GV. There was hesitation on her part at first and I thought I'd have to explain the long standing issues but when she realised what was happening then it progressed smoothly.

Only took 9 minutes from dialling my Premium Res shortcut to hanging up but for many a longer chunk of their day would have been consumed by this unnecessary issue.

Any tips on recovering lost GV numbers? Qantas want my bank to call them on their general phone line, which sounds like a ridiculous proposal.

They should be able to find them, if you give them enough information. In my case, name, when I bought them and their value was enough

They said unless I could provide the PNR then tough bikkies - I suspect I did lose a few but keep an excel spreadsheet now

I keep an excel spreadsheet too. I like to track which I’ve used and which card I used to buy the vouchers. I also keep a record of how many passengers the voucher was for.

They must have cracked down on things. I hit them up on Facebook a year or two back, and they tracked down a lost one for me.
