Being based in Victoria I expect to have very little time to do additional domestic flying under this offer.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on QF offering another DSC promo in early 2021? This may sound ridiculous, but even with COVID I’ve managed to get in striking distance of WP1, but might only be possible if a DSC promo pops up by around end of Jan. Given the whole status boost and other offers, I’m wondering if they’ll bother doing one...

yes, probably yes they will. They will try every which way to up demand.. sales, bonus points, SC's I am sure.

Specially as things are more certain and almost definitely later next year if/when international starts up. Well almost definitely* is obviously just an opinion.

but really P1 isn't much use with no travel....

I will probably take up another DSC promo if they do one, but not nearly as much as I would have 12 months ago.

The extension of status for 12 months and the continuing ban on international travel has temporarily reduced the value of status credits.

Yep... but I’d rather have the status boost of half way to WP1 than just WP for next status period when we should be getting back to normal.

I need a flight, any QF status earning flight from MEL return before Jan 31 for carry over status but I don’t want to pay with my first born for the privilege .
Any suggestions for an economical run?

Do you need a flight to receive the 12 month status extension or do you need to earn a certain number of status credits? For the former you could just book a reward flight, possibly Launceston is close and easy. For the latter, it will depend on what you want to earn.

Just the status extension. A reward booking will qualify will it?
Yes, classic reward flights are included. So if you’re not fussed about where to go, you will surely be able to find a seat somewhere.

There is a 10 page thread on this subject: “Book a flight and extend status to 2022”.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar position.
GV bought and ticketed during promotional period for travel during promotional period, all rules were followed - QF metal and QF flight number.

QF cancelled flight, entire amount was refunded but replaced with a new GV with new PNR, made well after the 20-26 Feb 2020 window.
They could not use the same PNR even though I wanted it. I'm pretty sure I have done this before, used the same PNR when the original flight was cancelled for use on a different flight - but am not certain.

New PNR was used to book a flight which occurred before the 14 Feb 2021 cutoff.
No DSC awarded because the new GV PNR was created outside of the promotional period and request for DSC declined.

I realise that's what the rules say, however because the circumstances were out of my control, do I just say tough teddies and leave it at that?

Or has anyone managed to get DSC awarded after explaining the situation?
