Just thought I would give a quick update on the flights.
Booked Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy to London via hong kong - Arrived at sydney airport checked in through the upper class counter (velocity gold allows this) and was told I had been upgraded to upper class (business) for the Sydney to Hong Kong leg and asked if this was due to ff status and this was somewhat confirmed , was advised upgrade didn't include lounge entry but my gold card would grant access anyway to the Air New Zealand lounge (very dated lounge) . Luggage was also tagged Upper class (velocity gold)
Upper class was incredible including bar at the end where I had a good chat to one of the pilots and other passengers and was told premium economy was over booked so thats why I was upgraded to upper class.
Got off the plane first which made for a lengthy stay in the lounge in hong kong (velocity gold) which was really nice and excellent service and a shower halfway through made all the difference.
Unfortunately no upgrade to upper class on this leg , premium economy was nice and included priority boarding although priority seating wasn't offered. On the return journey decided to pay for an upgrade to Hong Kong and did this on the phone about 10 hours before the departure time , Upper Class (Velocity Gold and Platinum) get you express check in through Heathrow which is great as the normal security lines look extremely long .
The lounge in Heathrow is properly the best I have been in with menu service and a day spa / including massage and hair cuts and steam room.
Upper class bed for the 12 hour over night flight made for a very enjoyable experience including 7 hours of blissful sleep (won't be able to do the back of the plane for this leg again).
Stayed in Hong Kong for a few days so wasn't on a connecting flight for this leg of the journey.
Flew premium economy from Hong Kong to sydney and checked in on the train on the way to airport which was excellent as you don't have to lug your bags to the airport , the lounge again was excellent alas no upgrade but asked in the lounge if their was any seating and a lovely member of staff come through with a seating chat and I was moved to the row of premium economy with heaps of legroom . Status credits and points were added within 1 week of the flight and Im going to hit platinum !!!! .
All in all I would recommend virgin atlantic to anyone especially their upper class product, Sorry for the long reply .
