I think you will get more of a laugh out of me.
I have got the shanks badly and I don't know what to do to cure them. Playing last Saturday morning in my regular timeslot one of our regular playing partners was away and we had someone in the group who has not played with us before.
On the 14th I have been known to shank a few on to the roof of the house on the corner. This time the ball went left again, I am left handed, and my playing partners did not know exactly what happened. They asked if I had gone onto the roof of the house on the corner. I just lowered my head and said not quite. I went in to the house about 3 houses back from the corner, almost at a 90 degree angle.
You can clearly see the dimples of the ball imprinted on the hosel of the 6 iron.
Coincidentally I could hear a child saying something to his father in the back yard. I hope he did not get hit, scared, by the stray golf ball.
For the rest of the day when it was my turn to hit the others would make snide remarks "is it isafe to stand here?" and "hang on we are moving so that we are not standing to the left of you". On a couple of occasions I had to remind them that it was not possible to shank a driver as it does not have a hosel. They just laughed and said anything is possible with you.
Back in the clubhouse after the game the three of us were having a drink. The visitor in our group had to leave so did not hang around. One of my playing partners said the new guy in the group was talking to him after the incident on the 14th tee and remarked "Did you know that ball nearly hit me?" and everyone started laughing. Well let me tell you that the shanks are nothing to laugh about but what can you do other than laugh at yourself.
