Example 1

A: "Do you know when he died?"

B: "Yes, I do know when he died."

Example 2

A: "Do you know when he died?"

B: "Yes, I do - he died three hours ago."

Example 3

A: "Do you know when he died?"

B: "I don't know when he died, but I do know he died of a heart attack."


In each of the examples above, the word "do" (or "I do" in the second one) as highlighted:
  • Is grammatically correct, and its presence modifies the semantics slightly
  • Is grammatically correct, but adds nothing to the sentence as if it had been omitted
  • Is grammatically incorrect, though socially acceptable
  • Is grammatically incorrect and is a bad habit

Which one?
 
They all look ok to me (though I'm expecting to be wrong).
Your post reminded me of the segment on ABC 702 this afternoon on em & en dashes and their uses.

Question: is the "Budgie Nine" singular and a collective and thus headline is correct, or are the B9s plural, in which case this headline qualifies for this thread?

I thing plural: Magnificent Seven, Oarsome Foursome etc,
Other similar plurals: Police, name of team with plurals (Brisbane Broncos)
Could be either: Family, committee, government, name of team with singular (Melbourne Storm)
Usually singular: team
