Greta Thunberg speech

As requested I am not going to reply further.
However I did want to emphasise that this thread was not about whether the climate is changing, and I have not set out to prove that it is.
I cited enough evidence to show that concern about climate change is not irrational.
I stated explicitly that whether you agree or not is not the point.
The point is Greta should not be dismissed as irrational because her arguments - right or wrong - are rational and based on empirical evidence.
Evidence which has convinced the vast majority of scientists with qualifications in the relevant areas.
I replied to the alarmism in your post which i believe is not in accordance with the science.
I made no comment about Greta.Nor will I.

I haven't made any negative characterisations of anyone's arguments. Nor will I.

But at least you're honest about it.
Honest enough that I understand climate change and it's got nothing to do with what we've done or what we're doing?

A couple of "experts" are blaming humanity and I need to get behind them and support them?

Yep. Carbon tax all over again. Attack anyone who doesn't agree with our cause or our opinion of what we think is going on. Yep.

Every single bed-wetting prediction of imminent doom due to global warming has proven to be a furphy. Nonetheless, I respect the right of everyone to religious freedom, but I will always oppose demands for mass retrenchments of workers, the corruption of scientific method, the wastage of taxpayer dollars and the imposition of an unreliable and dysfunctional power grid to satiate the spiritual demands of the global warming cult.

I've tried looking for the press conference that SRS65 mentioned where Greta was "unable to function". Anyone know where to find it?

Super entertaining thread, pity it's for the chop.
Coining a new word here : Adjectorial… to encapsulate the adjective riot that takes place on these polarised pi****g comp threads

While I mostly agree with the message the parading of the one individual is a bit much.

Greta's also not exactly great unscripted

Yes - if she was a REAL politician she would have said "How good's global warming!"

That's precisely why I find her to be genuine, BTW.

Good grief, I had missed that. So that's the spokesperson for today's youth?

There are plenty of teenagers far more eloquent and intelligent than Thunberg. There are also plenty who are less eloquent and intelligent than her but so far we have seen nothing from her to suggest that she's a prodigy of any sort. A convenient prop to deliver emotional blackmail though.

Emotional blackmail only works on people who care, so that's not in play here.

Interesting though that the only people that refer to her as "Saint Greta" and other labels are the Shyte News watching Alt-Right rabble. I wonder why they are so frightened that they need to place her on a pedestal so they can immediately knock her off it.

To see why the kids don't care what the old fogies think or when they attack them, this may help:

"The kids aren’t just all right — they’re scrambling the brains of their political enemies. "

"But as the past week shows, the right is perfectly willing to attack the children. Instead, the problem is that, as Mr. Carlson seems to realize, there’s just not a very resonant counter message for a youth movement to protect the planet. Polling also suggests that there’s an increasingly shrinking pool of conservative listeners for it, with a majority of Republicans under age 45 now identifying as concerned about climate change. And so it feels increasingly likely that, when it comes to climate, the right-wing media, which is skewed toward an aging Republican audience, may simply be obsolete.

In other words, it’s not that the right can’t attack the climate kids because of their age. Rather, it’s that because of their age, the right’s attacks feel especially feeble".

The real problem is that this is not a right V left issue.
You can certainly believe in Climate Change but still believe that this is not a Climate Crisis and that there are better ways of implementing change. Many scientists and activists of the left are in this group.Foremost would be James Hansen who thinks the current obsession with renewables is the wrong way to go.Scientists like Roger Pielke, again not of the right, has been totally slimed by the left for daring to have a different view of the outcomes of warming.
Activists like Patrick Moore a co founder of Greenpeace, definitely of the left, but now again pilloried for having different views.
And of course the man hated by our University academics for pointing out that economically we are doing it all wrong. Here is his article about Greta's speech.Should be read as it provides facts.

New York Times? Ha ha ha.

But if the kids don't care what old fogies think, why the great performance by Thunberg in New York? Sounded lo me like she was just a bit concerned, given that her speech was almost entirely directed to grownups?

But as for 'attacking' children. If 'children' engage in the adult sphere, they, and more importantly, those who put them there should be prepared to have adults engage with them and bear the consequences. I don't mean nasty things - that's not acceptable for adults or children; I mean hard debate. Such as pointing out the vacuousness of the arguments presented; their emotional rather than rational context and how Thunburg looked clueless in that press conference.

Criticism is now termed an 'attack' or termed 'offensive'. Translation - "shut up, 'your side' can't answer back".

A better augment from the Climatists might be "You know the best way to treat a child's temper tantrum is to ignore it".

And here is Roger Pielke explaining where the media have got their Climate Crisis evidence from and why it is wrong.

And for those that worry about children's health here is something that happened 9 years ago.

Do you think this is not going to get worse with all this alarmism.teen suicides are already rising.

If the NYT is not right wing enough, perhaps read the actual right wing TV, press and commentators. They are not just "criticisms", they are violent and disgusting against a young person. My point it, is that they will backfire.

A little OT but loons have been committing suicide and murder for decades over something or other. Had a number of religious cults take out their members. I don’t trivialise suicide - climate is one of a long list of things that young worry about, not the only thing. The world has become very negative.
