Has any QFF's switched over to Virgin, or may?

What? You think the 38 inch seat pitch domestic QF J product is world class? Sorry but QF is providing a domestic Y+ product, calling in J and their J customers are defending it. I call that QF taking advantage of it's J customers, who up to now had no other, "Better than QF Y" product to fly on other than QF. Now QF's exposed, over sold and over valued domestic J product has placed itself in the firing line for DJ to introduce a real J product all across the domestic fleet.

With respect to the real Virgin Blue business class product, you do realise that in the 737's they have stated it will be 37" pitch.

In my opinion, that is a mistake as they are then following QF in delivering a 737 Y+ product they are calling Business. But the newer 737 DJ domestic J seat may give more real room than the older QF domestic J seat. As I'm 1.9 m tall, this is a real issue to me and why my knees and I fly in Y exit rows. ;)

Already switch one of my intl flights to V giving it a go.
I prefer a company that is trying to win customers rather than one that sits around hoping customers don't realise whats on the other side of the fence.

In defense of both airlines, is anything more than 38" pitch necessary on flights under 3hrs? The 737's mostly do short haul domestic flying and both airlines have either put forth or plan to, significantly more legroom on flights longer than that. But in a 737 cabin there is the constraint of space. More than exit row space (which I believe is 37-38" anyway) may actually mean just 1 row of business seats in the cabin. For while a business ticket definately has more yield, it is by and large the Y tickets which pay the fuel bill on a daily basis. One shouldn't expect 60" of seat pitch on a syd-Mel for example. It's just a waste of useful cabin space. I do expect short haul J to be different to long haul J, as one is made for the purposes of sleeping for 8+hrs and the other is made for the purposes of a relaxing short hop flight. Gee, wouldn't it be wonderful if 747s and A330s did syd-Mel on a daily basis, but that's not the purpose for which they were built and the high frequency required on that route, or similar routes, is better supported by a 737.

Sorry, but all you need is look at the pictures:

Virgin's new Business class is so much better then Qantas (domestically).

The divider in the middle between the 2 seats is much smaller on QF which is a drawback to some, Virgin's is a lot bigger where you can rest your arm and not be touching the other person, and more room for drinks.

Suely, given that the aircraft are the same, that must mean narrower seats :?:

I think I prefer the seats in the current -800's in QF than either! mind you I hate leather seats at the best of times, so VA already lost points with me on that!

Seems AusBT may be reading our posts about QF's domestic J seats:

The best seats in business class on Qantas' Boeing 737-400 - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Gotta like this comment: "Each seat has 35 inches of pitch ... and reclines slightly. Other than that, it's basically an economy seat with extra legroom." Could not agree more. Give me a Y exit row seat anytime and no I don't want an opup to a domestic J seat with less room for my knees.

Just a question then.. what airline has the best J seating on a 737 in your opinion? I only ask as I haven't seen anything outstanding.

New picture of Virgin Australia interior which will be rolled out across almost the entire 737 fleet by the end of this year, and eventually the entire E190 fleet. The business class looks a mile ahead of Qantas's domestic product....

The above photo hides the achilles heel of the new layout. No AVOD. What on earth were Virgin thinking?

I've enjoyed the extra legroom of row 3, but watching the purple perspex does grow dull after a while.

Finally had a QF 737-800 with AVOD last week. The plane isn't as pretty as the new DJ 800, but business class is properly screened off, and did I mention the plane had AVOD?

In the day and age of smart phones and iPads I'm actually quite surprised that the presence of AVOD is an issue at all on a short haul flight. I've taken dozens of flights with and without IFE and to be honest I don't think I've ever once missed the lack of it. Where it's been available I've never used it, finding the contents of my iPad far more interesting. Although I do realise that most people think it should be standard fare on every aircraft. For the life of me, I can't figure why, since most of us carry a personal AVOD in our pockets or bags most of the time. Just catch any public bus or train to witness how geared up most people already are.

I was going say every flight I take has AVOD since I got ipad.

Is it really AVOD or loop IFE on the new qantas aircraft?
