Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

I hear you....there was only one award seat on the flight I booked and I woulda hated to of lost it. It got to the point where I was checking daily to see if the booking reference was still in my account.

I called to follow up a couple of times but was told it was still with ticketing, but all looked OK. Logged in one day and it had been ticketed but as a classic award and not an ASA...another call to get that sorted.

Long story short, just keep an eye on it.

My domestic flights have been relatively easy, but this was my first international ASA - does anyone else have any experiences?

Yes, well, you've just described my concerns with the process. The "I've-been-working-here-20-years-and-know-how-to-do-my-job-and-don't-need-you-to-tell-me-an-internal-RoQ-7740-policy-number" agent at the Premium desk assured me they knew how to book this properly. Fingers-crossed it all goes swimmingly. Might drop a PM to Red Roo.

Yeah I've come across that attitude too. And in the end they haven't been able to do it. very disappointing. good luck with your booking

This response concerns me too. Please do send me a private message with your booking details kevrosmith.

Even if 'all goes swimmingly", this attitude is not acceptable - Premium Desk or otherwise.

Hi all. Tried to make my first booking today, after identifying a classic J award from SIN-BNE in early March. The classic points is quoted at 60,000 and around SGD390 in taxes etc. Rang the 1300 number, quoted "would like to book a classic award as an any seat award", gave the same flight dates, and then fell off my chair at a quote of around $2500 and 60,000 points. This seemed well over what others are claiming in Jessicatam's spreadsheet. I asked if she was sure it wasn't a points plus pay quote etc etc but there was no budging. Does it sound right to you? Is my payment high because of the flight only being around 3-4 weeks away? Has the operator looked at the wrong screen/workflow?

I would say they are looking at the normal points plus pay, where the points is 320000, I just did a dummy booking and that seems to be the case!

Minimum points required: 5,000 All inclusive points amount: 320,400

as you have discovered the service is pretty variable for this. Try again. Maybe avoid mentioning anything about classic awards. Try using fare buckets. Read again the many hints up-thread

Wow! Hope red roo is reading....fell off my chair again....because the operator rang me back! To apologise! She chatted to a colleague after our call, and realised her mistake. Quoted 60,000 and 475Aud. (Sin-Syd-Bne).

I have the lady's name and location if red roo wants to give her kudos. I was also told, next time, to ask for an any seat award in Uniform class 'U'. Awesome.

fantastic result. And although I think there is more success with asking for U (for uniform) class it's still no guarantee

That has always been the advice here on AFF.

Do not ever mention the word Classic as you / CSRs will be both confused.

Only two code words worth remembering in my case: "U" for Uniform [Business] and "P" for "Papa" [First Class]

Isn't strictly speaking always the case. I have said "I can see an available Classic Award on x date, can you book that for me as an any seat award at the minimum/Classic points and I will pay the F&C with CC"

I would wager that you are one of only a few who have had success this that wording. By far the more successful wording has been, "I'd like to book a business/first class Any Seat Award in the Uniform/Papa fare bucket please." Avoiding the word 'Classic" is generally advised.

I know that there are too many posts here for most to read the lot. However, "an any seat award in Uniform class" has been mentioned many, many times for bookings in J class.

Not specifically referring to your booking, but people need to stop talking about mASA's as well, because it's an Any Seat Award in Uniform class.

Of course this doesn't guarantee a successful booking (almost 8 months after the removal of on-line JASA bookings :(), with some know-it-all booking staff on the end of the line. :( Also, I'm aware that there are some good ones, but it's the duds that worry me.

I'll keep doing it my way, never had to call back yet :)

AFAIK, there is no proven / guaranteed "script" with MASA.

What someone finds useful, others may disagree and vice versa.

What is needed at the end of the day is the booking is in "U" [or "P" for that matter] and that it is not a "Classic" booking - if SCs are what you are looking for.

How you mix the terms up during the call is your personal choice really.

And ... you need someone on the other end of the line who has some sort of clue, of course. But you don't have much of a say in that.

You ain't out of the woods yet! I asked for an 'any seat award in Uniform class' and ended up with a Classic and JASA $ cost. Took 3 calls before flying to get it recognised as an ASA and then 1 after travel to have SC and points applied, and yet another to have DSC added.

You need to check your activity statement to see that it says 'Any Seat Award' and doesn't mention 'Classic' anywhere.Something like:
