Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Yes, I've cancelled ASA bookings made both before and after the "telephone only" era.

Cancellation terms will depend on which system you used when booking, online or phone.

As ComeFlyWithMe says, you won't find the fare conditions attached to a recent (phone) booking - unless you recorded them at the time.

For online bookings, they show up on your Booking entry. Even then, you need to do your homework before calling to cancel. Print off your fare conditions and have them on hand, as I've found that I've been told that there will be cancellation fees when clearly none should apply. A reference to the print out and all was well, on those occasions - but only after a check back to a supervisor to confirm, so you may need to stand your ground.

Did you book under the old system or the (not so) new?

Mrs GPH happily announced that apart from losing 5000 points per booking, per person we would be fine on the $'s outlaid , full refund.

The 5K 'classic' redeposite (or whatever) fee does not come into play for mASA's at all.

Wear that if you will, but if a full refund was paid there should be no 5K fee. Seems like another agent is inventing things.

I'd consider call back for a review.

nothing to lose by asking and 5,000 points to gain

Just got off the phone after making a JASA.
SYD-HKG return in Jan 2015.
Without a word of lie, it took no longer than 6 minutes. The longest part was reading (Nicki) out my CC number and waiting for it to process.
This was ALMOST easier than doing it on line, due to me not having my computer handy.

Don't want to sound too skeptical, though are you sure you're going to end up with a JASA? (Holds breath until the magical "ANY SEAT AWARD" deduction appears on Activity Statement)...

kevrosmith,
that the funniest post that I've read all day. :D. What with all the MH missing 777 business, which is just terrible.

Yes, it will probably not be a JASA for the OP. :(. Sometimes the CSO's who know it all actually know very little. Anyway, hope that the JASA works out for you Dmac6345.

Not sure how the missing MH plane relates to this thread...? Thought there's another thread discussing that. Plenty of stuff happening around the world.. just ask the Ukranians... is that what you mean? Heck, no need to leave our back yard.. just ask the homeless guy I walk past every day near the train station...

Anyway... glad to hear that some people have success with booking a JASA. My first attempt a few weeks ago resulted in apologetic PMs from Red Roo, phone calls from the P1 SST and a direct call from the Call Centre Manager in Melbourne. It was all sorted in the end. Would hate to imagine what it would be like if I wasn't P1 this year. Used to be much easier online in my experience.

I know exactly what you are both thinking. I have already been in that same "ASA booked as Classic" etc etc position.
Although this is probably my 10th MASA I have booked since they were taken off the web. 90% strike rate so far.
Holding breath not required as booking has already come through. Showing ASA and "U" category on E-ticket.:p

My post was meant as a compliment to you (and your post), kevromith. Apologies if it didn't come over that way and that you were able to read something into it that was never intended.

It looks as though Dmac6345 got my point, which was your point as well.:D Also, glad that it went well, Dmac6345.

Apologies if I over-reacted, it's been a long day, though I'm obviously not appreciating the intended intonation of the reply. It's all good...

OK. Thanks. And it's all good with me as well.

Also, I have been "done over" on the JASA phone bookings as have many of us, and have no confidence as to whether the booking will turn out right until I get the QF booking email.

yeah, I got it too :)

I want to try and book a one of these in Premium Economy, but I can't work out how to tell if there is availability as a classic award seat as the web site is just showing me economy or business availability. Am i doing something wrong?

should I maybe just look for the fare bucket in expert flyer on the flights i'm chasing?

thanks

terry

if you have ticked all the correct boxes and are searching correctly classic availabilty will show up. Look on other days to check that you are using the site correctly.

Has anyone booked any ZASA's lately? Do you know what fare basis they are booking into now?

I had to change a flight booking and because it was already a ZASA, no further points were deducted, so no way of checking the activity statement of "ANY SEAT AWARD". I have the fare basis, "ZBPACE". I've not seen this one before.

Thanks. when i opened up the dates it worked. Just nothing available on the days I wanted.

As an aside, can I book one class one way, and another class on the way back? or do both flights need to be in the same class?

thanks again.

Once again, explore the site. But I believe that you should be able to do that. I am pretty sure that several classes are presented (if available of course) and it's a matter of ticking the appropriate box.
Time spent exploring and doing dummy bookings will be time well spent. To see maximum availability, so as to play with different things, look at the far extreme of the booking calender

Further to Newk's answer, if you book them as two separate trips, then yes.

Have you first checked that premium economy is available for a paid fare on the route you are looking at, on the day you are looking at? Not all routes have premium economy. Some routes only have it partially - only on certain days when a 747 is flying the route, and not on other days when an A330 is flying the route. Confusing much.

Also, premium economy is the smallest cabin so it tends to have the least award availability.

Good luck searching.
