Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Oh, I must have heard about it on another thread, then.

It was in this thread and it is relevant to this thread as an expression of shock that point plus pay can have some relative value; despite the prevailing view in thread.

At the end of my Double Status credits runs I may revert to Classic J runs for quite a bit of 2014-2015 travels domestically. The underlying method of MASA has started to be very like what medhead is doing with points plus pay but with that system you can really rip yourself off if you are not careful.
Just making it to 14,000 lifetime status credits has been my aim and I have more than a thousand SCs coming thru in the next couple of weeks.

The potential to rip yourself off, combined with my view of value likely being very different to other views, is another reason I'm not prepared to name a route. I'd hate someone to take the route to be an example of good value (based on my judgement), book it and then feel ripped off.

I believe we can all decide for ourselves if a route is 'good value' to us or not.. :)

I reckon you should be able to get it for 45,000 with the SYD-MEL leg in Y.

(Classic is probably pricing it as 45,000 PE + 16,000 economy)

Funnily last night I only got that Classic PE seat displaying when searching for J HKG-SYD-MEL and it had the infamous ! stating "your flight from HKG to SYD will be in PE". I look today and its gone, and FlightStats is showing 0 Z availability too.

It does not pay off when you hesitate most times.
I still don't like having to call but all my earlier bookings before the changes have all been used up.

I never booked MASA online before and today was my first time trying to call and make a booking. The lady on the other line tried to convince me to book regular ASA or points + pay but after I repeated my request for the 3rd time she finally got it and it was all done in less then 15 minutes. I must say it wasn't as hard as I thought it will be, you just need to know exactly what to ask for and eventually (with some patience from both sides) they will do it for you.

I may have to cancel a long haul JASA , which I've not done before. I can't see any reference to a cancellation fee anywhere .
Has anyone had any experience with this?

There shouldn't be any fee or loss of points, like a J full fare - I presume from your comment that you have read the fare rules - in them it should state Cancellation information.

This is not always the case with international long haul, and the fare rules are no longer shown on many of the bookings since going 'offline'. You have to call to check.

Also Asian JASA/FASA itineraries can have a $300-500 (or some amount around that) cancellation fee that must be paid in cash.

That is not the case - rules can and do vary- especially for long haul. The variance can be subtle.

E.g. For trans pacific ex Oz I have seen rules where a service may be charged for changes and a maximum of one stopover. Ex USA may have "unlimited" stopovers and no service fees charged.

Yes, I've cancelled ASA bookings made both before and after the "telephone only" era.

Cancellation terms will depend on which system you used when booking, online or phone.

As ComeFlyWithMe says, you won't find the fare conditions attached to a recent (phone) booking - unless you recorded them at the time.

For online bookings, they show up on your Booking entry. Even then, you need to do your homework before calling to cancel. Print off your fare conditions and have them on hand, as I've found that I've been told that there will be cancellation fees when clearly none should apply. A reference to the print out and all was well, on those occasions - but only after a check back to a supervisor to confirm, so you may need to stand your ground.

Did you book under the old system or the (not so) new?

So, apart from the question of time of booking (online system or phone), it may depend on the route, GPH.
Was it Oz-USA? Oz-Europe?

The other factor is whether Business Sale, Business Saver, Business Flex etc comes into play.

Complicated? Not when it was online! Fare Conditions were immediately available, both to read and file.

Today I am showing Mrscove just how close the Brisbane Airport Novotel is to the terminal but I forgot to bring binoculars.
Double status credits make all sorts of stupid stuff possible.
