Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Here are the relevant FAQ questions:
Frequent Flyer - Program - Fairer Flying FAQs

Q: When do these changes take effect?
A: The changes are effective for travel on and from 1 July 2014. This means if you book on/after 29 March 2014, for travel on or after 1 July 2014 you will earn Qantas Points and Status credits in line with these new Airline Earning Tables.

Q: What if I've already booked?
A: If you have flights booked (booked and ticketed prior to Sat 29 Mar 2014) for travel on/after 1 July 2014, you will earn the Qantas Points and Status credits that applied at the time you made your booking. The applicable Qantas Points will be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer Account approximately four weeks after the dates of the flight(s) taken.

I've bolded the relevant words.

From the first question, New bookings on/after 29 March get the new earn. That includes 29 March. It does not match the version from Red Roo.

The second question about old bookings clearly states prior to 29 March to get old earning. That does not include 29 March. Especially since bookings on 29 March get new earning.

I can only repeat the information from Red Roo does not match the website.

Clearly My mileage varies, as does Qantas' mileage.

No we use the same english dictionary, however I guess we have a different understanding of the use of all the words together. To each, their own...

Whereas in my eyes, as we have been given until 30th June to make any bookings before the option to book mASA's is taken away, I perceive that 3 months requirement has been met (as there is no difference between the first two options below, they both earn at the current rate).

YMMV.

re table: agree - it is very simple. The only confusion was the effective date (27th, 28th, 29th or 30th all seemed to apply at one stage or another).

As for part two - the new earning table has the three month notice period as it doesn't start until 1 July. So that has satisfied the terms and conditions. And any old bookings are protected 9by virtue of the 27/28/29/30 date)

It used to be a 6 month notice period but Qantas took that away for their sole benefit. No one seemed to care though.

Also for the 3 month notice. I am not talking about notice to book MASA. I am talk about implementation of the new earning rates. The earning tables are part of the Terms and Conditions. The whole 29 March cutoff means that the new earn table in the terms and conditions has taken effect from 29 March. That is not 3 months notice before I am subject to the new earning regime. Last Thursday morning I could have booked flights post 1 July that would earn at the old rate. 1.5 days later that same booking will earn at the old rate. I have not been given 3 months notice of the change to earning.

this applies to any bookings including MASA. As I said I've been given 1.5 days to book a MASA after 1 July that earns at the OLD rate.

Obviously this is a bit of a esoteric argument, as such I will discuss it no further. But I do not expect to have people trying to change my opinion or trying to yell me down.

Yes, I also think this also applies. Any bookings made after 29 March would earn at the old rate as long as they were for flights within the 3 month period. No booking would be at the new rate unless booked for more than 3 months hence. So it does give 3 months notice for every circumstance except for bookings made after 29 March for travel more than three months ahead where to avoid the new rates applying we had 1.5 days to make the booking. The total discontinuation was also 3 months out, namely 1st July.

I really appreciate the effort you've put into developing the table. It looks vastly better than anything I could do.

How does this look?

I thought I said there is no justification for you to yell down my opinion.

You're right it is my ability to earn that needs notice. That is actually my point. Last week I had the ability to earn at a certain level for the following 12 months. Qantas changed that with 1.5 days notice not 3 months.

If you don't understand my point that's your problem. <redacted>

Just finishing a day MASA for 400 SCs. Inching towards QF Lifetime Gold and picking up Platinum for one more year.
If you are close to either status then up to June30th is your best opportunity.

Someone upthread mentioned that he/she had Lifetime Ansett Golden Wing.

That would be worth something, am I right ?

I had it for less than a year. It got me a free-for-life Diners Club card that I got rid of when Citibank pissed me off one too many times.

Ansett was a real crash and I always did TAA and the Qantas as my mainstream supplier of travel.
I did use 700,000 Ansett points a month before it folded.
3 in our family are Qantas Club Life Members and I am not too concerned.

In response to the title of this thread, the answer for me is "NO"! Am i doing something wrong?!

I'm having trouble getting a JASA MEL-PER-BME (all same day) for 36,000 points. For travel in July, which I understand will earn at the new rate - which is the same SC's anyway - 140. Both sectors have classic award availability in J.

I have rung up the 1300 number three times and they keep telling me the minimum points is 60,000 (36,000 + 24,000). The successful bookings table suggests this should be possible for minimum 36,000 + co-pay, based on others experience. Is that correct?
Help? Anyone? I am currently gold and need this to get back to WP.

Not sure if anyone has answered yet.
I am not entirely sure of the answer to your question, and you should check the spreadsheet too.
You MAY have fallen foul of the new variable introduced into MASA booking when they went off line.
When you break a flight into more than one leg, often the classic points requirement gets over-ridden. Something to do with allowable routes....see a long way up-thread. If that doesn't help and/or isn't the right answer I'm sure someone else here can help

I, not an expert, understand that it depends on the commercial fare rules, which can be accessed using Expert Flyer (paid service) or a travel agent system. The point is, whether it is regarded as a single "trip" with a stop, or 2 separate trips.

My understanding is that the general rule of thumb is whether or not a direct flight is available - so SYD-ADL-PER counts as 2 trips because it could have been done in one SYD-PER direct sector, or in other words, a SYD-PER fare doesn't allow an ADL stop. So in your case, I'd assume the rules may not permit any transit stop on a MEL-BME fare because there is a (weekly) direct service (QF1050). Or maybe the only permitted transit stop on that fare is SYD (to get the SYD-BME direct).

Anomalies have been identified from time to time (such as BNE-PER permits a stop in SYD) and that's been part of the mASA mystery, however there's a whole degree more complication in the details, and they probably change from time to time.

To be sure I think you'd have access those fare rules (or have some-one do it for you!) but if you've already had the same answer consistently from 3 CSAs who otherwise seem competent, then I think that's already the answer. (That's how I learned about this, trying to get a SYD-ADL-PER return JASA during the December double-status-credits offer!!)

Here's Routing Rules for MEL-BME for J for a date in July..

The "9845" and "9998" lines seem different.

Here's TSV to ADL via BNE for comparison.

I was on the last Ansett flight MEL-PER on 14 Sept 2001. It was placed into administration on 12 Sept., but finally grounded on 14 Sept. while I was in the air. I can tell you that it was a very sad flight. I was in J but the catering consisted of a plastic 'glass' and water - and you had to keep hold of your 'glass' if you wanted more water. I had seen the writing on the wall and pulled my home-bound flight forward by a few hours (ie. the c. 1800h flight rather than the c. 2100h flight). Anyone who didn't was potentially stranded for a long time.

I lost 300K points - but I had used a lot more than that in the previous year or so getting away for weekends to relieve the stress, as my marriage was going down the tubes.

The feeling in the cabin for the staff was palpable. It didn't need any words; it was just terrible.

finally grounded on 14 Sept. while I was in the air.

That's quite an image.

We loved their flights to KIX, and had been saving points for just one more... so much else on our minds at the time that I must confess we had no clue as to what was coming.

That said, a good friend spent all of September 10 trying to make a partner booking, but with no success.
