Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Just off the phone with the Platinum desk, spoke to a very efficient Scottish lass and booked a FASA to LHR (will be my very first :D)
SYD-MEL-LHR for Mar 15 192,000 points and $977.11.
All done and dusted in 5 minutes

Just by way of contrast, my (first-ever) SYD MEL LAX FASA booked in Nov 2013 cost 144,000 points and a similar amount of cash.

Your LHR route seems much more 'cost effective' with the DXB LHR sector effectively costing only less than 50,000 points !

Well done !

It seemed like an hour to get NRT-SYD mASA today. Had to refer to Right on Q. Took it to supervisor for checking & correction. But pleasant enough if somewhat lengthy.

Dammit. Why am I getting such high quotes?

I phoned again this morning and this time was told 224k + $2467.83 for a PER-xMEL-LHR JASA return.

Note that you are quoting "return", but all the suggestions and ball park figures are "one way". So, your quote is actually pretty good I reckon.

The spreadsheet has around $1100 for LHR-MEL and $680 for MEL-LHR. So your cash component is about $700 or so higher to cover the "bonus" PER-MEL return, which doesn't seem excessively excessive once you factor in the 32k in points saved and the extra points and SCs earned.

the day I want clicks over next week. I'll be deeply engrossed at work (sitting and listening to the beeps) so my call better be done and dusted in 5 minutes too :)

Awesome! - but no wonder it was done and dusted so fast - you could understand each other ;):!::mrgreen:.

Not quite, she was from Ayrshire and I'm from Dunbartonshire. As she was entering in the CC details I told her that as a JMO I worked in a hospital in Ayrshire and needed a nurse translator :D

You'd better hope that while you are on the phone for 5 minutes that someone who is sick of the whole status chasing thing doesn't get on line and book those seats as a classic award in 4 minutes.

I am spending an awful lot of time looking at availability and doing dummy bookings.
Plan B is to say FU to QFF if they cannot book my MASA and book CX on a classic award part J and part F*. I think it will all work. I am really in two minds about the need to ever again chase status......but something deep inside of me wants another year of WP

the status chasers will be trying to work out what a triangle is, and using lemon juice to write secret messages :)

*edit to add: speaking of which, QFF sells a CX174--->CX253 with a 50 minute changover time in HKG. Fabulous way to get from ADL to LHR in 22.5 hours, but would the connection work?

yeah, yeah I know it's off topic

Quite possibly, and if not, there are worse places to be stuck for a few hours, like SYD or MEL or BNE.

Called today looking at BNE-ADL-BNE, and I can see U class availability.
Told by the agent on the 1300 number that ASA can only be booked if Classic awards not available?!
Are people still calling the 1300 number, of going through the usual Platinum service number?

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. (Either number *should* be fine, but I'd use the 1300 one.)

I guess there's very little incentive for them to start getting it right now.

The first agent is wrong. Remind them gently about the Qcard 7740 and tell them to read the steps and consult with a Supervisor. Otherwise HUACA. As I did here.

I've been away/moving and haven't had a chance to follow it, but has Red Roo responded to the issue of changing an mASA post June 30?
ie. is it possible (even though fare rules may allow) and if so, will the changed mASA still be able to earn?

I haven't seen this specifically addressed. Given other answers though, the assumption would be that you can change within the fare rules with applicable fees, if any, and still earn.

Thanks, are you able to link to these "other answers"?

I was just referring to Red Roo's response confirming that xASAs booked prior to 1st July for travel after 1st July will earn SCs and points, but at the new earn rates.
